BLACKPINK: Non-Blinks React to Contracts, Scandals, Solo Companies, and YG Entertainment Management
Today, we will finally be covering one of K-Pop’s most popular girl groups, Blackpink. We waited to talk about Blackpink because we wanted to know where they were going to land once contract negotiations ended with YG Entertainment. So now that we know what's going on with 3 out of the 4 members, we thought it'd be a great time to talk about them.

DPR Update, Coming To You Live (Giggles, DPR Ian, REM, DPR Artic, and More)
If you're aware of the K-Hip Hop and K-R&B scene, then you know DPR Live, currently performing under his government name, Hong Dabin. And if you follow the DPR members, you know the week of January 21 was CRAZY.
So, today we will be giving an update on the Dream Perfect Regime collective. If you're new, we released an episode on DPR back in September of 2022 where we gave an intro on who they are and what they do. And A LOT has happened since then – so much so that we felt that an update was absolutely necessary.

Doona! MIA2K Review ft. Daebak K-Rambles Podcast
When we saw the promotions for one of Netflix's new K-Dramas, Doona!, we just knew we had to call our friend Jess from Daebak K-Rambles Podcast to discuss it, especially as a follow up to our joint episode on Dream High!
This episode is not a typical review of the K-drama as that's not what we do here, but we DO have some key angles we wanted to touch on:
- Bae Suzy's growth (or lack thereof) as an actress in the 13 years since Dream High came out
- The way Doona! touched on idol struggles (or didn't...)
- The fanfic feel of it all
- The Webtoon POV and the (questionable?) choices made by the author both for the webtoon and the screenplay
We had a blast going IN on the show with our friend Jess, and we're so thankful to her for joining us on this episode!
Previous MIA2K X Daebak crossovers you can enjoy:

- Dream High
Thanks to Jess again for coming on, and remember to follow her!

GOT7's Jay B: The Man, The Myth, The Scandals
Today we’re going to be covering a solo artist: Jay B.
Lim Jaebeom, Defsoul, Def., JB, Jay B, JJ Project, Jus2... the man with more names, groups, subunits, collectives, and companies than most artists see in a whole lifetime. In this episode we'll be covering his foray into music, his trainee years, his acting credits, his years with GOT7 within JYP, his historic leadership over keeping the group together despite having all seven members signed to different companies, and his own solo journey through now three companies post-JYP Entertainment.

Fallen Idols: How B.I, Wonho, and Soojin’s Controversies Forced Them Out of Their Groups (But Not K-Pop)
Today we’re going to be covering a topic that's a little controversial. We are going to talk about idols who have left their groups. We will specifically focus on 3 idols, the reasons why the left, and our opinions about it.
(And we have one more bonus idol at the end that wasn't forced out of the group, but we wanted to contrast the debut numbers for context.)
Please remember that a lot of the stories and accusations have not been proven true and to take everything we say with a grain of salt.

01:59 Toshi in Florida September 30th - October 2nd 2023
02:38 Interviewing Toshi
02:46 When did Toshi first realize he wanted to go into music? Was there a specific experience or person that pushed Toshi to pursue his artistic dreams?
04:34 Toshi’s KProfiles page states that he made his first mixtape on his phone and a $5 pair of earbuds “to prove that anyone can make music even if they can’t afford expensive recording equipment.” He also filmed your music video for Hi & Goodbye on an iPhone 8. What advantages does Toshi think this gives him in today’s oversaturated and overproduced industry?
09:36 We’ve seen Toshi cover Keshi, Billie Eilish, DPR, and many other artists on his TikTok/SoundCloud account, so we wanted to know –– who else does Toshi consider a musical influence? What recent releases is he interested in covering next?
13:38 How does Toshi pick the cities that he’s showing up to on tour now? Is there something special he’s seen in Florida that gives him hope for the potential audience here?
16:32 We’re in the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month, and to us it’s very important to bring our cultural point of view into what we do. Does Toshi feel the same about finding ways to weave his heritage into his art and content?
18:44 Does Toshi see himself collaborating with a Latin artist (if so, who?) or blending some Latin genres with his own musical style in the future?
20:37 What’s next for Toshi in music? Does he have any upcoming projects he’d like to share with us? What’s in store for Toshi’s Florida tour stops in Jacksonville and Orlando?
23:31 What does Toshi like to do in his free time aside from music? How does he unwind from the pressure of breaking into the music industry?

Is KQ Entertainment a Small K-Pop Company (as they claim to be)? MIA2K Investigates - Summer Shorts!
If you search “KQ” and “small company” a bunch of reddit and quora articles appear where fans ask the same question over and over: Is KQ a small company?
Why do we care? KQ has this narrative around them that they are a small company battling it out to make in the industry with ATEEZ leading their way. A lot of people are annoyed by ATEEZ's rapid rise within the K-Pop industry. They use the fact that bigger companies have invested or partnered with KQ (like Sony, CJ ENM, and that they were home to BlockB) to diminish ATEEZ’s trajectory.
And so, we're here to investigate! Let's find out the tea behind KQ and its partnerships!
We're also here to warn you about a presumed/alleged data breach with EXIMBAY for which many K-Pop fans (particularly Atiny) have seen fraudulent transactions on their credit cards, mostly attributed to Walmart.

Our K-Pop Biases 1 Year Later! New biases, new wreckers, bias lines, and even bias changes 😱
Disclaimer: we tried a new recording platform for this episode to see if we could get better quality for you guys but unfortunately it worked in the opposite way and we got kinda crappy sound throughout the podcast episode :( We still think the episode content was good and fun, and recording it again wouldn’t give us the organic laughs we had here, so we hope you still listen and enjoy it. We’ll be back with our good sound next week! Now let’s get into the episode!
In February of 2022 we dropped a two-parter episode (part 1 and part 2) where we shared our biases at the time and why we felt the way we did. This time around, we came back with a quickie round-up/update on our stances from last year, and then jumped into all the new additions as main biases, new wreckers, whole entire bias lines, and even some biases that changed...

Will HYBE’s Greed Affect BTS?
We've talked about YG, we've talked about JYP, and now HYBE got us to put our investigative research hats on!
This is a really long episode, but there's just so much to cover that we could simply not leave out as it's all a part of HYBE's path to global takeover. Instead of making this episode multiple parts, we'll let you decide where/when to stop and when to keep going!
We're covering HYBE's existence in three stages:
1. The days of Big Hit Entertainment: HYBE (as its previous iteration as Big Hit Entertainment) gave birth to BTS, Tomorrow X Together, 8Eight, Lee Hyun, and GLAM. We also go into Bang Sihyuk and his evolution to become Hitman Bang in this section.
2. How Big Hit Entertainment became HYBE Corporation: from about 2019 until 2022, Big Hit Entertainment laid down the groundwork to become HYBE and secure its position as the biggest player in K-Pop. Acquisitions, partnerships, new labels, technology investments, and so much more.
3. HYBE’s Expansion Era: the moves and shakes we've seen from HYBE this year showed us that the question is no longer whether HYBE trying to take over the whole k-pop industry. Now it's evident that they're going for domination at a global scale.

Is YG Entertainment the Worst K-Pop Label? MIA2K Investigates
We have always been vocal in our disapproval of South Korean entertainment companies (or K-Pop group labels) for their practices that take advantage of idols or neglect to promote them appropriately so that they don't reach their full potential.
This episode is kickstarting a series that dives deeper into what each of the major companies gets wrong or right, and the first at bat is YG Entertainment.
We want to let you know that some of these episodes might deal with delicate subjects like child labor, body autonomy, grooming, personal freedom, disorderly eating, prostitution, money laundering, body dysmorphia, and a lot of other serious and potentially dark topics, so please be alert to our content warnings to skip a section.
Today's episode probably has the most triggering content, so stay alert to our content warnings throughout the controversial sections.

K-Pop Cupsleeve Events: What are they? Who puts them on? How to plan one?
Being a K-Pop fan is an experience that goes beyond listening to music. Our enjoyment is not confined to concerts or events organized by music labels or entertainment agencies. We have taken matters into our own hands and found every possible way to celebrate the artists we love, and one particular staple that caught on like wildfire is the cupsleeve.
Is it an item? Is it an event? It's both. And we're here to give you every vantage point that makes cupsleeve events what they are: from attendees, to the hosts/organizers, the vendors, and the cafes where the magic happens.
We had the honor and privilege to count on the wisdom and experience of two STELLAR South and Central Florida hosts: Zero, who runs @skzinflorida as well as a multi-stan merch site over on @99limes_, and Jackie who started hosting events last year and is now a solidified Stray Kids flagship organizer in South Florida. Thank you Zero and Jackie for your collaboration for this episode!

Happy Birthday, K-Pop! K-Pop Podcasts Choose the Top Songs of Each K-Pop Generation
K-Pop was born with the formation of the group Seo Taiji and Boys and their experimental sound that mixed in hip-hop, coupled with dancing on stage. Their debut song “Nan Arayo” ("I Know") premiered on a talent show on April 11, 1992 which is why we consider this date the birth of K-Pop.
Today’s episode is going to be both fun and maybe a bit controversial, because we’re going to share each generation’s THE song!
We want to thank some collaborators whom we reached out to for help to make this episode come to life. Since we wanted to cover each generation of K-Pop but we ourselves have only been around for about 3 years, we had to reach out to the experts:
For Gen 1: Shannon and Angélica over at Ask Me About K-Pop
For Gen 2: Chris and Chan over at CCTV Pops
For Gen 3: Official K-Pop Highway Radio
Thank you all for your contributions!

Differences Between Korean and Western Entertainment Industries from KPop/KDrama/Webtoon Fangirls
After two years knee-deep into being fans of webtoons, KDramas, KPop, and Korean entertainment as a whole, we've become desensitized to the differences between eastern and western programming.
We don't even notice until the uninitiated point out the differences!
So we're here today to share all the ways in which we've noticed our consumption of Korean content and entertainment has changed us, and we're closing the episode with a round of Never Have I Ever, KPop edition!

Monsta X: Still No Mercy from Starship Entertainment | MIA2K Rants
We're not fans of music companies/labels in the KPop industry as a whole, but we've got BEEF with Starship Entertainment and their management decisions for Monsta X.
Now that 5 out of the 6 members of Monsta X have re-signed with Starship Entertainment, their fate within the company is sealed. And although I.M chose to leave the company and chart his path as a solo artist elsewhere, he will remain part of the group as many other idols have chosen to do before.
This episode is unlike any we've done before, as we call out many of the recent missteps by Starship, and we didn't mince our words. We love the Monsta X members and we want what's best for them - and Starship is not it.

13 Reasons to Love Seventeen
We got into the KPop world because one of us (Laura) took it upon herself to go down the rabbit hole... but she refuses to go down alone.
So, unsurprisingly, as Laura finds herself stanning yet ANOTHER group and initiating herself into Caratland, she's taking Kathy down with her, yet again.
And so we come to you with a literal presentation on 13 reasons why you should love Seventeen. Buckle up!

What is a dating ban?
Why is it even part of idol culture in South Korea?
Can idols have profitable careers in spite of being openly romantically involved?
This is today's podcast topic, and we dive deep into the theory of why these bans are a thing and the reality of what they actually accomplish. We also cover past and current dating scandals in the K-idol industry, and finished with a sincere plea for agencies and delulus to stop this mess... please.

KPop News Recap: KSA Chairman's Request to BTS, KARD Comeback, KCON LA Lineup, Hobipalooza... and Beyoncé?!
We usually cover just one topic at a time on our episodes, but this past week had so much happen in just one day that we had to do a whole KPop news recap. In this episode, we talked about:
- RM being swarmed at Incheon upon arriving from his Switzerland/Paris trip, and Switzerland Army reminding everyone of our Army Fanclub rules.
- Korea Singers Association’s Chairman begging BTS to reconsider break (and also pleading with the South Korean government to exempt them from military enlistment).
- Journalists vs. KPoppies.
- Charlie Puth ft. Jungkook's collab "Left and Right."
- Billboard Charts vs. Army (shout out to Bad Bunny killing it!)
- KARD comeback! So happy for them and the Caribbean vibes on #Ring_The_Alarm are IT!
- Summertime sadness: we're crying ourselves to sleep nightly because we have to be responsible adults instead of blowing all our money on KPop concerts that require air travel to attend...
- Drake & Beyonce coming out with clubby/EDM music, a la KPop 4th gen.
- Beyonce bringing back physical albums with different box versions and branded items... hello KPop business model!
- Siwon from Super Junior looking DELICIOUS with the long hair a la Severus Snape or an older I.M from Monsta X.
Check out our blog post for the detailed scoop on all of these topics!
