Ep. 58: Empowering Parents: Navigating Child Bullying and Sexual Harassment
What would you do if your child was being bullied by a student and it turned to sexual harassment?
Today, I start off by mentioning that this episode might be triggering to some people. I discuss a recent article on the suicide of an 11-year-old girl who was bullied and a first-grader whose bullying experience advanced to sexual harassment.
These stories are shared in hopes that they will provide you with an idea of how strong an advocate you could be for your child if they have or are experiencing any form of bullying and to empower you with knowledge.
I will discuss…
🗣🗣 mental health and false appearances
🗣🗣 the importance of instilling empathy in kids by sharing stories
🗣🗣 meeting details of parents advocating for their 1st grader at school
I’d love to know what you like best about this episode. Please comment or leave a review and thank you for supporting me and this podcast!
Ep. 57: From Trauma to Triumph: Empowering Moms in Difficult Conversations
Parents have to have many uncomfortable conversations with children at different ages and maturity stages.
For example, explaining to a child why some relatives are not welcome into your home, explaining to them what to do if a police officer pulls them over, or having to tell them how to be safe to prevent sexual abuse or human trafficking.
The list goes on. There are many conversations that we must have with kids that no one prepares us for. I believe that we are in an era where these conversations are becoming more public.
To help you learn how you can have the conversation of body consent, boundaries and safety, I invited Veronica Del Pino, a bilingual (ENG/SPAN) licensed clinical social worker to share with you everything you need to know about working with a professional to help you learn how to have these hard conversations and manage your own trauma.
We talk about:
🗣🗣Veronica’s qualifications that allow her to serve moms
🗣🗣The different methods of therapy that she uses
🗣🗣The role of a therapist
🗣🗣Accessibility to therapy for low-income families
🗣🗣The reality of finding the right therapist
🗣🗣Why some mental health specialists don’t work with insurance providers
🗣🗣Important terms such as EMDR, In and Out of network providers and sliding scales
🗣🗣What an intake is and what it includes
🗣🗣The importance of a professional who can help you better communicate with others
🗣🗣Who Veronica offers her services to
🗣🗣Availabel services to Spanish speakers
Tune in the listen to the entire episode and please share this episode. Someone just might be in need of working with Veronica.

Ep. 55: End Bedtime Wars With Your Child
If you are a new or parent not, and you’re having trouble getting your kids to go to sleep, you will love this week’s episode.
Carla Perl is a mom of three beautiful children: two boys and one girl. She had her children very close together and realized early on that sleep was key to a smooth-running household (and my sanity).
Carla was very diligent about instilling good sleep habits in her children. Nana, her mom, inspired her to create early bedtime routines and follow consistent schedules.
To this day, her kids are all good sleepers and understand the benefits of a good night's sleep. As her family was growing, many of Carla’s friends would ask her how she was able to keep everything under control.
Carla quickly realized that because she had such a consistent routine, her children always knew what was coming next, and bathtime and bedtime struggles were few and far between. As her friends looked on, she began offering them support; helping them establish routines, and giving them recommendations for sleep and toddler behaviors.
This led to her interest in becoming a Pediatric Sleep and Positive Encouragement Consultant and the founder and owner of Slumberland Solutions. Carla is here to help YOU and your family create loving and happy routines and she provided some really great tips to help you if you’re struggling getting your kids to sleep.
Carla talks to us about:
Setting up a sleep schedule for kids.
Establishing boundaries.
Managing challenging kids who won’t go to sleep.
Proper sleeping posture for babies.
The resources and services she offers to parents.

Ep 50: 3 Tips To Create An Anti-Bullying Culture
While bullying will always exist, it can be drastically reduced if only societies, communities, institutions, and organizations made a committed effort to create an anti-bullying culture.
This is not an easy task, since it requires groups of people to work together, but movements have been created that have changed our way of life.
So, it is doable!
Here are three main factors that I believe can successfully create an anti-bullying culture to improve quality of life for everyone, not just our youth.
Anti-bullying education and awareness
Creating supportive environments
Implementing strong policies and consequences
Remember that change can happen and it only takes one person to take the initiative to start that change.
Ep 49: How Kimochis and Social Emotional Learning Support Children's Emotional Expression
Creating safe spaces allows children to feel comfortable and secure, knowing that their emotions are valid and respected.
It helps them develop trust and build meaningful connections with adults and peers. When children feel safe, they're more likely to take risks in expressing themselves and engage in healthy emotional exploration.
Dr. Katie Raher is an expert in this enabling children to live out their lives, one feeling at a time and in this episode she shared how she has been able to do so through Kimochis and Social Emotional Learning.
We talk about:
How Kimochis can help children communicate their feelings
The intersection between feelings and behavior in children
Why parents, caregivers and teachers should support children emotionally

Ep 35: What makes one Latino, Latina or Latinx?
What makes one Latino or Latina? I have been thinking about this after I replied to an Instagram post regarding Gina Rodriguez’s response after she was asked if she needs to speak the language in order to identify or be considered to be Latina. She responded by saying that she is not defined by anyone’s definition of Latina and that she walks in her world confidently.
Just like her, I agree that there isn’t a one size fits all for any demographic. I have lived experiences as a Latina raised in the U.S. and have learned from other individuals who have faced ridicule by other Latinx people who believed they weren’t real enough to identify as part of the Latin American community.
This is the gist of this episode and I share my sentiments on it as well as two stories from people who have been made to feel outcast and/or denied to be fully accepted in their own Latin American community.
Please keep in mind that this is a sensitive topic and while you may not agree with what I have to say, you are expected to be respectful.
Any hateful, mean or bullying comments are not accepted. We can all agree to disagree amicably. Thank you.

Ep 34: Teaching Children How To Forgive Their Bullies
Forgiveness is a hard concept to come to terms with especially if someone has hurt you. As parents it is crucial to teach your kids about forgiveness especially when they have bullied.
Forgiveness has a number of benefits, such as promoting emotional healing, reducing the likelihood of long-term resentment, revenge-seeking, encouraging empathy and compassion. Being able to forgive is also part of social emotional learning skills that children and really, everyone can benefit from.
Forgiveness can also help children learn important social skills, such as conflict resolution and communication, which can benefit them in future relationships and interactions with others.
In this episode I share:
- Why it is important to teach your children about forgiveness
- Methods (from author Jen Sincero) that one can try to be able to forgive someone

Ep 31: Is college the right next step for your child?
Whether or not college is the right next step for a child can depend on a variety of factors, such as their interests, goals, and educational needs. For some students, college may be the best choice to pursue a certain career or to continue their education in a specific field. While others it may not be the best fit and they prefer to enter the workforce or explore alternative educational opportunities.
College is a big commitment, both financially and in terms of time, and students need to be able to handle the rigors of college-level coursework and the responsibilities that come with living away from home.
It's important to talk to your child and help them explore their options.
In this episode, I speak with Maura Mulligan and Annamaria Wenner of Beyond The GPA about how children and parents can assess post high-school options.
We talk about:
- How to support your child if they do not want to go to college
- Misconceptions around a gap year
- How to put your child’s skills into action so they can progress with or without a degree

Ep 30: Why you should do an end of year review
There are several benefits to doing an end-of-year review. It can help you reflect on your accomplishments and challenges from the past year, set goals for the coming year, and identify areas for improvement.
An end-of-year review can also help you take stock of your personal and professional growth and development over the past year. Additionally, it can be a helpful tool for tracking progress towards longer-term goals and staying motivated to achieve them.
Conducting an end-of-year review can be a valuable way to close out the year on a positive note and set the stage for a successful new year.
In this episode, I share;
- Why you should consider reviewing the past year
- Questions to consider asking yourself to do a thorough review
- My plans for the DaliTalks Podcast in 2023

Ep 29: The Act of Conscious Parenting
We all want to be the best parents we can be for our children, but there is often conflicting advice on how to raise a kid who is confident, kind and successful.
Every aspect of being a parent has become more complicated and more fraught in this day and age with parents managing complex new assignments and anxious new decisions, all while handling the regular questions that come up in daily life with the children we love.
So, what is the right way to parent and how can parents work on improving their interactions with their children? In this episode I speak to Dr. Saul,a professor of pediatrics (emeritus) at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Upstate and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine – Greenville, Greenville, SC.
He shares:
- How parents can get involved in creating safe communities for children

Ep 28: What Are The Misconceptions About Little People?
Society has come a long way since circus “freak shows” put little people on display. But little people still face a high level of stigma in society and most times a lack of reference to who they are and what they can or cannot do.
However little people are more than just their height or disabilities, just like other human beings they are filled with passion and enthusiasm to go above and beyond to achieve their dreams and Selene Luna is testament to this.
Selene is an established actress in Hollywood with multiple roles in movies and TV shows like Soledad on FX's Mayans M.C. and the voice of Tía Rosita in Disney-Pixar’s Academy Award and Golden Globe Awards' Winner Coco.
While acting is a strong passion of hers, so is advocating for disability rights which has taken her to the lengths of Washington, D.C. to meet with legislators like U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, at the 2019 Conference on Independent Living and spoke at a rally on Capitol Hill alongside U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer.
In this episode, Selene talks about:
- How she has been able to overcome the stigma surrounding little people
- Her rise to stardom in a culture where people with disability are unequally highlighted
- Her best references for little people

Ep. 26: Helping Youth Find A Meaningful Cause
Cairo Eubanks was in college when a peer began stalking and harassing her online. She didn’t personally know the guy. After months of his attacks, she decided to speak up about it online, and much to her surprise other victims spoke out.
They all banded together and with a lot of work, they were able to put a stop to it. But it shouldn’t have taken over 30 women to stop one cyberstalker. That experience lead Cairo to do a lot more in the world. Cairo created Bringing The Globe (BTG), a virtual international student exchange program and a global village for students equipping them with the transferable skill sets and resources they need to thrive. BTG provides self-paced courses, live and virtual workshops, and online international conferences every year that leverage evidence-based and scientific research to help students find their purpose and passion.
Cairo’s work has extended into so many areas, that I had to invite her to the podcast to share her story with you. If you’re a parent who has a child looking for an opportunity to get involved in social activism, you will enjoy this conversation.

Ep. 24: How To Teach Your Child To Not Bully
Teaching kids about bullying awareness can be tough, but this author does it in a very entertaining way that will get kids to read more about it!
Let’s be honest, in order to teach kids about topics that can seem boring, we have to do it in an entertaining way.
It’s exhausting for parents like me who don’t have the creativity to make dull topics fun. However, we have people like Antonio Lumley, an author who has taken the topic of bullying and made it a fun thing to talk about through his action-packed books, “Undercover Ninja” and “Rise of the Anaconda King”.
That’s why I had to invite Antonio. During this conversation we discuss…
👉🏽👉🏽 His reason for writing these books
👉🏽👉🏽 The lack of values and morals being taught in entertainment
👉🏽👉🏽 Diversity in book characters
👉🏽👉🏽 What’s next for Antonio and his anti-bullying book series

Sisters, Amy and Nancy Harrington have a very beautiful relationship that has become an extension of sisterhood to many other women.
They founded The Passionistas Project out of a deep desire to empower women around the world. Both co-founders walked away from high-profile jobs in Hollywood to work together. Nancy left the ad agency where she created Academy Award campaigns for Miramax.
Now Amy and Nancy shine a light on the positive stories of women on The Passionistas Project Podcast. They have conducted more than 60 one-on-one oral histories for The Interviews for the Television Academy Foundation, including in-depth conversations with Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ed O'Neill, and more.
At the Emmys and other press events, Amy and Nancy have chatted with many stars including Rita Moreno, Lily Tomlin, Laverne Cox, Deepak Chopra, Carol Burnett, and many others. They have also produced interviews for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame including a sit-down with Mick Jagger.

Ep 16:Mental Health, Black Women’s Hair & The Need For Black Men’s Support
While it seems that people are more open to speaking about taboo topics such as mental health, racism, black women’s hair, and black bodies, the support is not always there. From the "fro" to hair wraps, to braids, Black women use their hairstyles as a personal expression of who they are. They show the evolution of Black culture over time, an evolution that has brought us to a time when more and more Black women are embracing the natural beauty of their own hair. However, it doesn't escape controversy.
This is what led Tunisia Lacy-Lumpkin to publicly speak about mental health in BIPOC communities and to carry out research on black men’s perspectives of black women’s hair. Her research was successful and earned her the title of Doctor of Philosophy for her dissertation on "What I Like: Chronicles of Black Males' Perspectives of Black Women's Hair".
She shared segments of her research in this episode and highlighted:
- Mental health in the black community
- Black men’s perspective on black women’s hair
- How hair, racism, and colorism are treated

Ep 14: How much do you really know about immigrants?
The contribution of immigrants in countries like the United States cannot go unnoticed. That is why it is vital for their experiences to be told and heard because when people don’t understand others’ experiences it is easy for discrimination to happen.
To highlight immigrants and their uniqueness, I speak to Heidy De La Cruz, mother, blogger, poet, and podcaster of The American Dream In The Eyes Of Immigrants where she has beautiful and insightful conversations with immigrants so that listeners can dispell myths, stereotypes and prejudices about them.

Ep 13: Cultivating behavioral patterns in children
Behavioral patterns are a strong determinant of one’s life and just like adults ensure to cultivate positive routines in their life, it is important that children do the same.
These can be patterns like what time to go to bed, how many hours you spend on your phone or where you place your keys or bag.
Once such patterns are nurtured at a young age, the likelihood of children practicing such patterns as they grow up is high.
Julie De-Lucca Collins shared her expertise on this subject in this episode. As a Holistic Business and Life Coach, Julie helps confused and overwhelmed women build and run a business, create the right strategy, habits, and daily action to be profitable and make a positive impact.

Ep 11: Have you read the first indigenous character comic book?
The media we consume has a profound influence on how we see, understand, and treat people, both those within and different from our own race or ethnicity, and that is why representation is important.
It helps kids build their perspectives on their own ethnic-racial group, as well as that of others and because of that parents ought to encourage their kids to view media content that is diverse.
In this episode, I speak to Joshua Lorea who has championed the need for diversity in comic characters and representation in media by publishing his comic book Nahualli, Modern Aztec Heroes: Volume 1 to highlight people of color and their experiences.
Joshua talks about:

Ep 10:What should I know about the LGBTQ+ community?
LGBTQ+ people exist, they are in our families, workplaces, and schools and we can no longer ignore their presence.
Due to their classification, the majority face discrimination and this is not right because just like other people they have human rights.
In schools especially, there is a divide between teachers, school administration, and parents on whether issues surrounding LGBTQ+ should be taught to students.
Much as everyone is entitled to an opinion surrounding how they would want their children to be raised, it is important to be aware of the diversity in the world and for that case needs to be addressed and that is why Destiny Clarke, an LGBTQ+ Educational Consultant and former teacher who helps teachers, school leaders, and caregivers create communities of care for LGBTQ+ youth graced us with her point of view.
In this episode, Destiny talks about:
- The importance of LGBTQ education to parents, children, and teachers
- Dos and Don'ts of getting to know the LGBTQ
- What gender is and its different forms
- Resources for LGBTQ youth
- How addressing LGBTQ+ issues is more than sexuality

Ep 9: Why don't schools provide anti-bullying programs?
With schools focused on educating children to ensure they are excelling in their grades, they may tend to miss out on teaching them about bullying, which is important to create a safe learning environment.
I came to this realization after years of volunteering at schools and then selling my anti-bullying services to schools.
With the first step in most cases being reporting bullying incidents to the school, children need more in-depth education about bullying because when a child is victimized, parents need the help of educators to make sure bullying is addressed. Parents and school leaders need to ensure that the victim is kept safe and that other children have an understanding of how to treat others.
In this episode, I address;
- The importance of in-depth bullying education in schools.
- Why parents need to speak up more about the need for bullying awareness at schools.
- How bullying awareness empowers parents and children.
