This episode is proudly brought to you by Womb Nutrition, Fauve and Co and The Beauty Company.
We sit down with (another) one of Demi's friends, Candice Smith. Wife to Isaac Smith, mother of 2, (Isla and Emmett) and co-owner of Home At Heart.
Candice, for the first time speaks openly about the traumatic period in their life when their son, Emmett, was diagnosed with CMV (Cytomegalovirus). What started with a failed hearing test at birth which was assumed to be fluid in the ears lead to a much more serious diagnosis.
Candice then speaks honestly about her miscarriage after Emmett, in which she felt "relieved" as she was beginning to recover from the trauma of her sons diagnosis. She acknowledges this may be hard to hear for many women. After time passed, the pair tried for another baby in an attempt to grow their family which unfortunately resulted in another miscarriage.
They still hope to grow their family and Candice shares her mental strength as she endures the pain of miscarriage.

TV Presenter, business owner and Mum of 2 young boys, Emma Vosti joins Demi & Melinda to unpack motherhood, work / life balance and trying to manage it all when maybe you just simply can't?!
This episode quickly became a favourite!! Emma spoke to the girls on a very raw level about what it was like to suffer from HG while pregnant with her boys. She took them back to a dark phase of her life as she broke down in tears painting a picture of what is was like when she was pregnant for a second while having a toddler.
Emma also chats about how her husband discovered their son Jack's pupil looked oddly white one night instead if black at just one week old and the journey they went on to find out Jack has a cataract in one of his eyes.
She also opens up about what it was like going from one child to two and what it meant for her career in the entertainment world while also running her small business.
Emma believes it's a lie to suggest you can juggle "it all" which the girls loved hearing her chat about and found it super refreshing and relevant.

#25 Amy Finch on life as an International cricketer's wife from the shock of falling pregnant to family life & online trolling
Today's ep was like a coffee catch up with girlfriends!!
Demi and Mel had the pleasure of chatting to Amy Finch, wife to Aussie cricket star, Aaron Finch who has travelled the world playing International Cricket.
We learnt about the extended period of time Aaron is away for work and the logistical challenges they face running (and creating) a family around his work extensive work schedule.
Amy disclosed the horrific cyber bullying they can endure with Aaron’s job being in front of a global audience, which included death threats to Aaron’s loved ones.
Amy openly discussed their decision to not have children, as the life they lived had it's challenges to create stability and routine however to their surprise, Amy fell pregnant shortly after a life saving surgery and now has a beautiful 2 year old named Esther!

#24 Daughter diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 4 years old: Meet Kim Micallef
Today we had the pleasure of chatting to Kim, the proud owner of White Smiles Geelong, who opened up to us about life as a mother of a child with Type 1 Diabetes.
7 year old daughter Willow, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 4, when at the time was only hours away from going into a life threatening diabetic coma.
Kim was not aware of her daughters condition and assumed it was an average virus however as she noticed Willow's water consumption increasing and her gasping for air one night when talking, Kim was able to see her GP immediately which ended them up in emergency.
Within handing over papers at the front desk of ED, Willow was quickly surrounded by a team of doctors and life has never been the same since.
Willow essentially needs 24/7 monitoring which although is Kim and her husband's “normal”, it brings a lot of challenges on everyday life for them both, which most of us would take for granted.
We were shocked to discover how lonely and consuming it can be as a parent of a child with Type 1 Diabetes and we are amazed at Kim’s strength and dedication as she navigates through this.
You will love this chat, both Demi and Mel have never spoken so little in an episode in our life and this is probably the episode that we have teared up the most.
#23 Miriam from Mumamoo, an Australian owned baby formula company on all the rules around advertising infant formula
Did you know in Australia you can advertise gambling, alcohol, viagra and even extra marital affairs? I bet you didn’t know you weren’t allowed to advertise infant formula?!?!
Consumers aren’t made aware that there are rules in place from an agreement here in Australia that was put in place to stop baby formula companies from advertising Infant Formula.... WILD!
Today we sat down with the lovely Miriam who is a co-founder of Mumamoo, an Australian owned & made baby and child formula. Miriam openly shares how and why Mumamoo was created and the daily issues they face with trying to spread the word about their infant formula while having to abide by the MAIF: Marketing Advertising of Infant Formula.
We dive deep into the ‘warning labels' they have to put across their website and their formula tins. In addition, all formula companies must put a disclaimer on their website to ensure everyone entering the site understands "breast is best". As a result of the regulations, Mumamoo is bombarded with heartbroken customers feeling ashamed and triggered while they are trying to do their best to feed their baby.
Demi & Mel were both completely gobsmacked by the 'rules' around advertising infant formula when there is no other way to feed your baby if breastfeeding doesn't work out!
They were both in disbelief at the depths of regulations surrounding formula feeding, especially when some mothers have no other option. While we can appreciate and agree with why it is an industry that needs to be regulated, it has now come to a point where there needs to be a revision of the language, as a mothers mental health is proven to be imperative for a healthy happy baby.
#22 Dylan Buckley on his IVF journey with his wife and being a Dad
Today we chat to the talented and down to earth; Dylan Buckley! (For those of you who don't know, Dylan is Demi's cousin!)
Dylan is a popular podcaster, author, owns a producing company and most importantly, a dad. Normally Dylan is the one doing the interviewing but today we were able to steal him away for a change of topic, sit him in our guest chair (in his studio) and chat about becoming a Dad and Dad life.
He opens up about his 2 year IVF journey sharing the frustrations, the hurt and the struggles to be positive and how him and his wife Justine dealt with it differently.
Dylan wears his heart on his sleeve and is described by everyone around him as a “very emotional guy” (which we can confirm as he tears up 4-5 times throughout the episode).
The road to meet his son Max, now 7 months, was a long one but he wouldn't change it as Max is now "his little mate for life" and he learnt so much in those years not only about the IVF world & the female body but also about himself and his wife Juzzy.
Dylan discusses his dads' battle with mental health and being an alcoholic, his own battle with anxiety and his outlook on life.
It was refreshing to hear a males perspective on IVF battle and fatherhood anxieties. We hope you love this chat as much as we did!
#21 Dr Kara Thompson: Birth plans not going to plan, a Mother's mental health and how she connects with women on a Motherly level as an Obstetrician
In today's Ep, Demi sat down with not only her Obstetrician but local business owner of Berth: Exert Pregnancy & Birth Care where they dive into the pressure Mums put on themselves with birth plans and feeding journey's and the mental toll it has on them postpartum.
We learn more about Kara and her pregnancy journeys with her 3 girls going through IVF to begin with and then falling pregnant naturally with her 3rd and the connections Kara makes with her clients when they're going through certain situations that Kara herself has been through.
We also dive into the pressures around breastfeeding and failing to do so and what Kara see's when Mums arrive at their 6 week check ups. A very interesting and enjoyable chat!

#19 Laura Medved: growing up with a Mum with Bipolar and how it's made her be a better Mum to her 2 boys
In todays episode we have a very refreshing American accent from our guest Laura who gave up her time to chat to us about how she grew up with a narcissistic mother who had undiagnosed Bipolar.
Laura's mother unfortunately never got the help she needed by a professional which ultimately led Laura down a path to work on herself over the years, to finally come to the point where she can thank her mother for everything that she is, forgives her and acknowledges that she did they best she could in her own way.
Laura, a mother of two beautiful boys, has learnt from her upbringing what she needed as a child and broke the cycle by ensuring her sons never feel the way she did.
Laura is inspirational in her ability to self reflect and forgive. We learnt a lot from this episode and we hope you love this chat as much as we do!

#18 The emotional toll of a Missed Miscarriage on Madi Rohan + becoming a Mum without a Mum.
Trigger Warning - Miscarriage
We sat down with Madi Rohan, a local Geelong mum-to-be who is pregnant with her first bubba however went through a 'missed miscarriage' initially. Madi talks about how she had zero knowledge on the topic and wish she had of been more knowledgeable on how common miscarriages actually are (1 in 4 women) as she said she's never felt so alone.
Madi went through a missed miscarriage which both Demi and Melinda had never heard about before, Madi spoke in depth about what happened and was very vulnerable throughout the entire chat. We also touch on how Madi is feeling about becoming a mum without her mum as her Mum passed away when Madi was just 19 years old from Huntington's disease.

#16 Renee Enright: Fashion stylist, Mum of 3, on a journey to being the best version of herself
Wow the weeks really to fly around so quickly, here we are again with a new guest!
Local Geelong gal, Renee Enright; arguably the coolest mum ever... describes herself as curious with a large thirst for knowledge about so many things to do with the earth, spirits, healing & trauma and so many other aspects of life.
We dive into the big change it was for her and her kids from having her hubby be 15 minutes up the road for work for 21 years to changing jobs, commuting to the other side of Melbourne almost daily. We also chat about why Renee makes the time to do the things she loves, making the effort to fulfil her cup when she can as that helps her be the best version of herself.

#15 Brit Selwood's Infertility Journey and the struggles to eventually becoming a mother!
In today's episode, we sat down with Demi's good friend Brit Selwood to talk openly, for the first time about her infertility journey and the struggles she went through before finally falling pregnant and giving birth to darling Joey in Feb 2023.
It was a very raw ep, Brit gave us her honest thoughts on her own experiences and talked in depth about why she doesn't like to share much about it all online. We also learnt about who Brit was before she was 'Brit Selwood' and how passionate she was and still is about her job as a Special Needs Teacher.
Joel Selwood, Brit's husband, has recently released a book called "All In" which is an open story about his career at the Geelong Cats with a chapter dedicated to their IVF journey.
Brit describes herself as a private person who usually refrains from emotion and surprised herself as she became emotional during our chat.

#14 (mini) Missta Mums life & business update
Our last Ep for the term and yes, we decided to work in school terms, it makes sense to us and also make it easier for us with mum life!
Today's mini Ep is another life and business update - there is always so much to chat about.
We recap our first ever hosting gig, Catwalk for Cancer. Nerves were sky high and we spoke SO fast to begin with however it eased as we went back on stage more and more... we are so glad its under our belt now. It was a great night and we raised the $48,000 goal we were aiming for which goes towards a new endoscope video tower for the radiotherapy department at the Andrew Love Centre here in Geelong.
We also dive into how devastated we are to sell out of our famous Missta Bottle and how we feel like we have let parents who need us, down. It was something we tried to avoid but unfortunately it has happened and there's literally NOTHING we can do about it - which is just beyond frustrating.
Demi discusses her youngest two kids new fighting phase which she didn’t experience with her older two kids, not that anyone has any answers for this stage but it's relevant to our Mum life and we love to share what's going on behind closed doors. This catch up resulted in a bit of a vent about what grinds our gears at the moment with our children... there's always something haha
Enjoy - and if you could please leave a Rating or a Review, that would be greatly appreciated.

#12 Mum of 3, Hannah Jenkins on one of her twin daughters diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy
Our guest today is (another) friend of Demi’s, Hannah Jenkins who Demi knows through the Geelong Cats.
Hannah talks to us about her high risk pregnancy with her twin girls and how her waters ruptured at 23 weeks resulting in weeks of bed rest in a Melbourne hospital, while her toddler and husband were up and down the highway to and from Geelong almost everyday. Her twin girlies Piper and Willa were born at 30 weeks and spent a period of time in NICU before being able to move back to the Epworth Geelong Maternity Ward for another period of time.
Speaking in depth publicly for the first time, Hannah goes into detail on how she noticed differences with the twins' progression and followed her gut to ultimately discover one twin has Cerebral palsy.
Hannah explains the challenges they face on a daily basis and how their life has changed. She gave us an insight into her hardest days and darkest thoughts and we know our listeners will appreciate the honesty.
Beautiful Piper is so lucky to be born into such a loving family that would go to every length imaginable for her.

He made the decision to keep the information quiet from the club and chats about why he broke down in tears when they won the preliminary final taking them through to the Grand Final.
Andrew also chats about how life has changed from an Assistant coach at Richmond to Head coach all within 24 hours, with a call from former head coach Dimma one day, to being appointed Head Coach the next... he also touches on his imposter syndrome 😆
He is a private guy who seems happy to fly under the radar and we are so thankful he took time out of his crazy life to have a vulnerable chat about all things work life and dad life with us!
A chat we thoroughly enjoyed 😃
