Keep God's Command | Pastor Art Cabrera

SCRIPTURE TEXT: 1 John 2: 1-29 Christ Our Advocate 2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. The New Commandment 7 Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. 8 At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because[a] the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. 9 Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him[b] there is no cause for stumbling. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. Do Not Love the World 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[c]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. Warning Concerning Antichrists 18 Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. 20 But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.[d] 21 I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that he made to us[e]—eternal life. 26 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. 27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him. Children of God 28 And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. Walk in the Light | Assoc. Pastor Venida Antonio

SCRIPTURE TEXT: 1 John 1:1-10 With this message, we begin a new sermon series studying together the first epistle of John to the Early Church, progressing through one chapter per week. This inspired letter gives lessons on how to LIVE IN THE LIGHT OF GOD’S LOVE. John wrote to believers living through a time of persecution, confusion, and growing division even among Christians about the essentials of the faith and the falsities of heresy. This series offers sermon outlines prepared by Pastor Court and presented by various associate pastors of PCF-LA. Pastora Venida Antonio leads our examination of the first chapter of 1 John and its admonition to Walk in the Light according to God’s Word of life, light of love, & clear truth within, a pathway for partnership in the Body, fellowship in the Spirit, & perseverance in the faith. *For those participating online: prepare your supplies to join us in Communion. A Song of Healing from the Sickbed | Pastor Courtney Hall

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Psalm 41:1-17 In this concluding message of our “PSALMS OF PERSEVERANCE” sermon series, Pastor Court looks at Psalm 41 and one of the most challenging experiences of life: major illness. In this psalm of David, the situation includes the further aggravation of enemies who malign and, even worse, a friend who betrays. Yet through it all, the overarching assurance of the psalmist is once again that God’s faithfulness invites & undergirds our perseverance, confident that the Lord will sustain His own people from everlasting to everlasting. A Song of Praise from a Soul in Need | Pastor Courtney Hall

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Psalm 40:1-17 Psalm 40, yet another Psalm of David in our “PSALMS OF PERSEVERANCE” sermon series, affirms the Father’s faithfulness to His people to see them through times of trouble & trial. Here the psalmist affirms, “I waited patiently for the LORD &... He heard my cry” (v1). The psalmist notably describes real praise for their delivering God as including effusive worship, effective witness, and earnest walking in obedience to God’s ways. In times in which we may feel “mired in the mud” (v2), an effective response is to praise the Lord who always hears our cry & will answer our need in His righteousness. A Song of Deliverance from Secret Sin | Pastor Courtney Hall

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Psalm 32:1-11 As we continue our series on PSALMS OF PERSEVERANCE, we come to Psalm 32, a psalm of David that confronts the problem of silence about sin. But the alternative (making a clean breast of things through clear confession) brings both the comfort of Christ and the clarity of God’s holy counsel into our lives. Through our confession, God thus equips us all the more to persevere in purity even as He delivers us out of the folly of stubbornly sustaining our sin. *For those participating online: prepare your supplies to join us in Communion. SCRIPTURE TEXT: Psalm 4:1-8 We begin our new sermon series on “PSALMS OF PERSEVERANCE” with an examination of Psalm 4 and its prayer of trust in God at all times. This psalm of David carries the king’s character of persevering in prayer through all times of trial & troubles, offering assurance that the Lord hears our cries to Him. As we pray this poem of trust, we’re reminded that God alone brings true peace to His people.

Date: 05/14/2023 | Time: 8:30 am Sermon Notes

SCRIPTURE TEXT: 2 Timothy 3:1-17 In Part Three of our series on II Timothy, we hear the Apostle Paul's warning that "everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" (2 Tim 3:12). In order in order to Persevere Like Paul, we will need to "Withstand the Wicked" while we hold tightly to the truth of God. In this third chapter of his letter, Paul helps us toward that end by illuminating the clear folly of the wicked with the plain warning of God's word and the full faith of God's promises. A New Day Dawning - The Persevering Power of Resurrection | Pastor Courtney Hall

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Luke 1:76-79; Matthew 28:1-8; Hebrews 7:15-25 Every Easter we celebrate again Jesus' Resurrection from the grave by "the power of an indestructible life" (Hebrews 7:16). In our Resurrection Sunday message for 2023 & the Year of Perservance, Pastor Court concludes his Passion Week Sermon Series on "Passionate Perseverance" with a focus on the persevering power of resurrection. The 1964 song "Feeling Good" famously includes a chorus proclaiming, "It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life, and I'm feeling good." Though not written with this focus, few words could more succintly describe our joy on Easter morning, when "the light of the Dayspring from on high [shines] on those living in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace" (Luke 1:79) -- for our Jesus "is able to save forever those who come to...Him, because He lives forever to intercede for them" (Hebrews 7:25). Remember the Lord Your God | Guest Pastor Maureen Broderson

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Isaiah 46:9

Author, Pastor, & Life Coach Maureen Broderson reminds us in this message to remember the Lord our God & all that He's done for us. Remembering is an act of faith that reminds us--not to take us back into the past, but rather to prepare us for the future. Faith's greatest encouragement is remembering. And so, as Hebrews 2:1 admonishes us, "we must pay closer attention to what we've heard [from God], lest we drift away from it." Remembering can help anchor us to the word, will, and ways of God. We will hold fast to our faith as we remember the Lord.

Patiently Awaiting the Return of the King | Pastor Courtney Hall

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Matthew 24:32-51

Parables (short & simple stories often using symbolic meanings to convey a moral or spiritual lesson) formed a cornerstone of Jesus’ earthly teaching & preaching. Many of Jesus’ parables reflect the key role patience plays in the development of our character & faith. As we begin a sermon series looking at some of Jesus’ “Parables of Patience,” we focus on Matthew 24, in which Jesus deploys a number of pithy parables, including that of the Fig Tree, to teach His disciples how best to patiently prepare for His promised return. Jesus’ words continue to call us to a place of expectant observance, faithful service, and active yet patient preparation in our daily living to fix our faith on an eternal future in Christ.
