The Giver by Lois Lowry: Chapters 22-23 Synopsis

This Chapters 22-23 synopsis covers the end of the novel. We cover Jonas's starvation, his desperate attempt to survive and save the baby, Gabriel. We look at Jonas's traversing the snowy hill, finding the sled, and discovering Elsewhere in the distance. With the novel's end, several questions come to light. We discuss those questions along with the novel's themes and symbols. I end the podcast by reiterating Lowry's inspiration for the novel and mentioning the three other novels in The Giver Quartet.

Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare: Prologue Analysis
This six-minute audio covers the prologue to Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare. It coordinates with the Prologue Analysis handout which can be accessed for free in my Teachers Pay Teachers store here. The handout helps students understand the prologue by challenging them to match Shakespeare's lines to translated lines. The audio will provide further explanation and guidance. When students finish the handout and listen to the audio, they will understand the meaning and purpose of Shakespeare's prologue to Romeo and Juliet.

This audio coordinates with my free Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare Who's Who? Character Introduction Activity which is available for free in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Click the link to download the student handout, student Slides, and teacher answer key. This audio can be used without the student handout as a quick character lesson prior to students' reading of Romeo and Juliet.
The six minute audio will accomplish the following:
- introduce the Capulets and the Montagues.
- introduce key members of each family.
- introduce other key characters in the play.
- allow students to hear correct pronunciations.
- introduce the setting.
- provide brief character descriptions for some key characters.
