When it comes to decluttering, to avoid getting overwhelmed, it's not just about starting small. A vital component is setting realistic goals. Each person's capacity differs, especially when dealing with depression or anxiety. It's essential to understand your limits and work within those constraints rather than aiming for big, unrealistic targets. An attainable goal keeps you motivated, whereas a daunting one could put you off entirely. Nicky Asher-Bowling emphasized this a lot during the session. There was a certain relatability when she shared how she started from decluttering one single drawer and then worked her way up. She stressed the importance of being kind to oneself, accounting for the gradual pace as an achievement rather than a drawback. Her message to listeners in a similar situation: Every small step counts, and it's okay if things take more time. An insightful takeaway indeed!

Starting Small and Setting Realistic Goals

There's no rulebook for decluttering that states that you have to clean out your entire house in a day or a week. Don't put unnecessary pressure on yourself! Nicky Asher-Bowling is a motherhood expert and founder of Motherhood Unfiltered. She is passionate about helping moms manage stress and create healthy routines for themselves and their families.

She's been dealing with the effects of stress, anxiety and depression and was struggling to find a way to cope. She decided to take matters into her own hands and start a routine of stress management. She removed social media from her phone, created an electronic free time block, and implemented a morning and evening routine. Nicky prioritized the things that needed her attention and took ten minutes a day to give her brain a break. She slowly worked her way through her list and in the end, found herself a much better person for her family and community.

With four children under six, Leann Stickle, an eternal optimist, is determined to not let her MS diagnosis ruin her plan for the future, but her challenging journey reveals a new path of mental strength, self-care, and inspiring others.

"If you're tired, it's okay. It probably is fine. Right. But just kind of go to the space with me because I'm an eternal optimist, and so I look for reasons why this is happening and not look for, like, I try and explain things away."

Leanne Stickles is a mother of four who has lived with chronic illness for over a decade. She is an eternal optimist who focuses on mental strength and reducing stress to manage her symptoms.

Leann Stickle was an eternal optimist and dismissed her fatigue as normal until she fell out of bed one night. After her family doctor gave her a physical exam and an MRI, she was diagnosed with MS at 29. Leann was overwhelmed, picturing a wheelchair and a future that she hadn't planned for. After learning tools to help manage stress and fatigue, she started a nonprofit to inspire kids to love fitness and has raised over $100,000 for patients living with chronic illness. Her journey has taught her that doing good with the bad parts of life can be healing.

Caregiving Through Heartache: Blair Hart's Journey with ALS

After being diagnosed with ALS, Tony Hart, determined to make the most of his remaining time, embarks on a journey to ensure his family's happiness and help advance ALS research, in spite of the overwhelming odds.

"You got to live in the moment, though. You got to relish every little moment. And even the easier stuff has to become fun. It just does."

Blair Hart is a lifelong resident of Indiana who was married to her husband Tony for 34 years until he was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. They had three grown sons together and ran their own business prior to the diagnosis.

Blair Hart and her husband Tony had been married for thirty-four years when Tony was diagnosed with ALS. After visits to various doctors and trips to the Multidisciplinary Clinic in Indianapolis, Tony was diagnosed with the life-ending disease. Tony and Blair decided to make the most of their time together, going on a month-long vacation and taking one last family vacation. After Tony's death, Blair found solace in staying up to date with the research around ALS and donating to the ALS Association. She found strength in her close family, who were able to make the best of a difficult situation and cherish the last moments they had with Tony.
