(Self) Love Don't Cost a Thing 💗
Hey Single Roses! 🌹
Like many millennials, I love early 2000s music!
As I was listening to J Lo's 2001 hit, Love Don't Cost a Thing, I thought to myself that with a slight shift in perspective, this song would actually make a good self love lesson, in a world where self love has become entangled with consumerism through our fixation on external validation and material possessions.
In this episode, I talk about self love and her homegirls-self awareness, self acceptance, self esteem, self discipline, and self respect, to express why the most valuable treasures in life are the ones we cultivate within ourselves....for free.
Treat YOURSELF right and give YOURSELF all the things you need that money can't buy...or Whatever Jennifer Lopez was saying lol

Skip the spouse. Buy a house!
Hey Single Roses! Have you ever thought about buying a home for yourself but feel like it's not within reach? This episode is for you! I had a conversation with Aerial Austin, a successful local NC real estate agent. Aerial and I talked about the benefits of purchasing a home as a single woman, even if you plan to partner later. We talk about what to look for in a good real estate agent, what red flags to look out for when purchasing your first home, what you’ll need to do to start the process and more!
I purchased my home in 2022 as a single woman with 1 income (less than 6 figures) and only $20,000 to invest! If I could do it, there's hope for you too! It is completely possible to find a home that fits your lifestyle and budget, even as a single woman. I will share my home buying story in a different episode if you all are interested.
Please follow Aerial on IG! Her IG is great for homebuying education and inspiration. Following her on IG inspired me to take the leap into homeownership!

Is it safer to be single? What single women can learn from #kekepalmer
In this episode, I talk about the community response to learning about the nature of Keke Palmer's relationship with her son's father, Darius Jackson. I use the allegations to discuss how culture influences the abuse that women in our community experience. Correction: In the video I share some statistics for The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence but call it The National Center for Domestic Violence by mistake. Here is their website for more information. Here is the article I used as a source to make this episode. 🌹 YouTube 🌹Instagram 🌹 TikTok 🌹Last episode

Why Do You Want a Romantic Relationship? Interview with Dr. Kris Marsh
Hey Single Roses! I sat down with Sociologist Dr. Kris Marsh, author of The Love Jones Cohort: Single and Living Alone in the Black Middle Class. Our conversation centered around destigmatizing singleness in the Black community so that we don't settle for toxic relationships that disrupt our peace. Dr. Marsh encourages us to ask ourselves, "Why do you want to be in a romantic relationship?" This thought exercise helps us to determine if we genuinely want a romantic partner or if we are yielding to the pressure to partner in a society that caters to marriage and systematically discriminates against single people. We discussed the barriers to partnership for Black Women and how structural forces (racism) constrain our personal choices when it comes to choosing a suitable partner. Finally, Dr. Marsh advises us on how we can build fulfilling lives as single women by leveraging our non-romantic relationships. There were so many gems in this interview and I really hope you take something valuable away from the conversation!
Please go purchase The Love Jones Cohort: Single and Living Alone in the Black Middle Class on Amazon! It is a great read!
