How to Treat Pain without Side Effects with w/Graham Mackenzie PH.C. FP5 Ep.9

Graham Mackenzie is a pharmacist, author, and pharmacy owner who has made it his mission to address the problem of pain through pharmaceutical compounding. By leveraging highly effective transdermal bases, Graham uses active ingredients such as ketamine, lidocaine, gabapentin, cyclobenzaprine, and ketopforen, (among others) to create pain remedies that work to block the pain signal at each individual nerve receptor, thereby blocking it's communication in the brain. By treating pain topically, these formulations cause little to no side effects, are well tolerated, and can often include multiple ingredients, that if taken orally could cause a wide range of side effects.By treating pain topically, these formulations cause little to no side effects, are well tolerated, and can often include multiple ingredients, that if taken orally could cause a wide range of side effects. Kim has also taken an interest in Functional Medicine and has taken certification courses through the Institute of Functional Medicine. Functional Medicine is an approach to healthcare that looks to address the root cause of disease, through various methods, including through lifestyle and diet interventions. In this interview, we look at 3 separate studies that discuss different dietary changes, including diets such as Very low carb, Ketogenic, Fasting, and other variations of diets that are showing potential to reduce the burden of diabetes by using diet and lifestyle coaching to change the course of type 2 diabetes for patients, even achieving remission in some cases. Yes, I said remission! These studies are on the forefront of a new approach to diabetes. There is definitely a place for pharmacists to play a role in a multidisciplinary team here, and to be able to see patients reduce their medications, and sometimes even achieve remission of a disease that represented a $3.9 billion dollar burden to our healthcare system in 2020 alone.
