Coastal Community Church is a group of people from all walks of life who are being transformed by Jesus Christ. We are located in South Florida with a location in Parkland and a future location in Lighthouse Point.
Every week we join together to worship God and to experience a relevant and powerful message, which teaches truths from the Bible. We are passionate about sharing the love of Christ by caring for each other and positively impacting our community. The mission of Coastal is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. This is the basis of everything we do!

James 2:14 - 17 NLT What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have

faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?

Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say,

“Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t

give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by

itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 MSG Even though I am free of the demands and

expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in

order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous

moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized—whoever. I

didn’t take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their

world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I’ve become just

about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-

saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want to talk about it; I

wanted to be in on it!

1. Value PEOPLE. 

1 Corinthians 9:19-23…..I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in

order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous

moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized—whoever.

2. You don’t have to be LIKE them to be LIGHT to them. 

1 Corinthians 9:19-23…..I didn’t take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in

Christ….

1 Peter 3:15 … Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to

give the reason for the hope that you have…

3. See from a DIFFERENT perspective

1 Corinthians 9:19-23….but I entered their world and tried to experience things

from their point of view….

4. Get CREATIVE

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 ….I’ve become just about every sort of servant there is in

my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life….

5. Never forget WHY


1 Corinthians 9:19-23 …. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want

to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!

Romans 10:13-15 NLT For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be

saved. “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And

how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they

hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them

without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of

messengers who bring good news!”

you.”

3 GIFTS IN SCRIPTURE

 ETERNAL LIFE.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in

Christ Jesus our Lord.

 The HOLY SPIRIT.

Acts 1:4-5 “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised,

which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few

days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

 SPIRITUAL gifts.

Romans 12:6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.

1 Corinthians 12:1 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be

ignorant.

1 Corinthians 12:11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives

them to each one, just as he determines.

1 Corinthians 14:23-25 So if the whole church comes together and everyone

speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in,

will they not say that you are out of your mind?

Gifts From A Friend

1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts…

1. His gifts are UNIQUE.

1 Corinthians 12:4-6 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There

are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of

working, but the same God works all of them in all men.


2. His gifts are NEEDED.

1 Corinthians 12:27 NLT Now all of you together are Christ’s body, and each one

of you is a separate and necessary part of it.

3. His gifts are FULFILLING.

John 15:8, 11 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing

yourselves to be my disciples. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you

and that your joy may be complete.

4. His gifts touch OTHER PEOPLE’S lives.

1 Peter 4:10 NLT God has given gifts to each of you from his great variety of

spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God's generosity can flow through you.”

A spiritual gift is a SPECIAL SUPERNATURAL ABILITY that God gives to

each of His children, so that together they can ADVANCE HIS PURPOSES in

this world.

2 Corinthians 13:14 (MESS) The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the

Luke 3:16-17 John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one more

powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.

He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”

Ephesians 4:22-30 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put

off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new

in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in

true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and

speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your

anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not

give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must

work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to

share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your

mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs,

that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:19, 23 Do not put out the Spirit’s fire…May God himself, the

God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and

body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our spirit is drawn to IDOLATRY.

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love

the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve

both God and Money.

Our soul is drawn to PRIDE.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,

goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Our body is drawn to LUST.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy

Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.


Ezekiel 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will

remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put

my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my

laws.

1. Invite the Holy Spirit to SHOW ME.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my

anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way

everlasting.

John 16:8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and

righteousness and judgment:

2. Invite the Holy Spirit to CHANGE ME.

Psalm 51:10-11 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit

within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.

Romans 8:5-6 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set

on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have

their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the

mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

Galatians 5:14, 25 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires

of the sinful nature…Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

3. Invite the Holy Spirit to FILL ME.

Ephesians 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be

filled with the Spirit.

RUWACH – a wind, breath, a violent exhalation, blast of breath.

Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface

of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

PNEUMA – a current of air, blast of breath, a strong breeze.

John 6:63 The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

 Wind is UNSEEN.

John 14:17 The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows

him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

 Wind is UNPREDICTABLE.


John 3:8 Jesus answered…“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its

sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with

everyone born of the Spirit."

 Wind is POWERFUL.

Acts 1:8 And you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.

“But as I turned and was about to take a seat by the fire, I received a mighty

baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit descended upon me in a manner that

seemed to go through me, body and soul. I could feel the impression like a wave

of electricity, going through and through me. Indeed it seemed to come in waves

and waves of liquid love; for I could not express it in any other way. It seemed like

the very breath of God.” –Charles Finney

 Wind is REFRESHING.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the

Lord is, there is freedom…And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and

more like him as we are changed into his image.


John 20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy

Spirit.”

Acts 1:4-5 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this

command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised,

which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few

days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 2:12-16 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this

mean?” Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much

wine.” Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the

crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to

you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s

only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

Acts 2:38-39 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the

name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift

of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are

far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”


1. Let go of your FEARS and MISCONCEPTIONS.

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the

Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

2. ASK GOD to give me ALL that HE HAS for me.

Ezekiel 47:3-5 As the man went eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he

measured off a thousand cubits and then led me through water that was ankle-

deep. He measured off another thousand cubits and led me through water that was

knee-deep. He measured off another thousand and led me through water that was

up to the waist. He measured off another thousand, but now it was a river that I

could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough to swim in—a

river that no one could cross.

Ezekiel 47:9 Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There

will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt

water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live.

3. Pursue an INTIMATE FRIENDSHIP with the Holy Spirit.


2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Acts 19:1-2  While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”  They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

  • He is A HIM.

John 14:17  “…the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

  • He is NOT WEIRD.

John 16:7 “But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”

  • He is GOD.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper.

Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 5:3-4 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit? ...You have not lied to men but to God.”

  • He is my BEST FRIEND.

5 Benefits of the Holy Spirit

  1. He will be WITH ME.

John 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.”

  1. He will REVEAL THE BIBLE to me.

John 14:26 “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

  1. He will help me SHARE JESUS with OTHERS.

John 15:26 “When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.”

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  1. He will CONVICT ME of sin.

John 16:8 “When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.”

Isaiah 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

  1. He will guide me through life.

John 16:13 “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

God wants to release us for His purposes after He’s prepared us, not because we press Him. 
Immaturity confuses willingness to be used by God with readiness to be used by God.
Your ability isn’t the determiner of your usefulness, your character is.
Core exercises:
Get into a healthy relational dynamic for spiritual growth.
Be submitted to the perspective of healthy leaders
Do whatever you are entrusted with like it’s your test run.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Pray: STRENGTHEN me with YOUR POWER.

Ephesians 3:16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all this through HIM who gives me strength.”

Ephesians 3:17-19 ….And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 


Pray: Help me to KNOW how much you LOVE ME.


Ephesians 3: 20-21 Now to HIM who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to HIS power that is at work within us, to HIM be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Pray: Help me to SURRENDER and RESPOND to you. I want to see you do IMMEASURABLY more!

Psalm 16:11 NKJV You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.


Ephesians 1:16-18 NIV I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.

 

1. Pray that I may KNOW GOD better.


Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you.’”

2. Pray that I may OVERCOME the ISSUES that hold me back.

3. Pray that God will REVEAL His real PURPOSE in my life.

4. Pray that God will use me to make an ETERNAL DIFFERENCE in the lives of others.

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had

named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God

of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand

be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God

granted his request.

“Oh that you would bless me indeed”

1. Pray for BLESSING.

Psalm 18:35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me;

you stoop down to make me great.

Genesis 12:2 NLT I will bless you… and you will be a blessing to others.

“Lord, give me more than I need so I can be a blessing to the world around me.”

“Enlarge my territory”

2. Pray for INFLUENCE.

2 Corinthians 10:15-16 ESV But our hope is that as your faith increases, our area

of influence among you may be greatly enlarged, so that we may preach the gospel

in lands beyond you…

Ephesians 3:20 NIV Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all

we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

“Lord, enlarge me so that I might reach the full potential of your plan for my life.”

“Oh that Your Hand would be with me”

3. Pray for PRESENCE.

Acts 11:21 NIV The Lord’s hand was with them and a great number of people

believed and turned to the Lord.

Exodus 33:15-17a Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us,

do not send us up from here.   How will anyone know that you are pleased with me

and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and


your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” And the Lord said

to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked,

2 Corinthians 3:5-6 NIV Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything

for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as

ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills,

but the Spirit gives life.

“Lord, anoint me because what you’ve called me to is too big for me.”

4. Pray for PROTECTION.

1 Peter 5:8 NIV The devil is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

Romans 8:35-37 NIV Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble

or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all

these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

“Lord, strengthen me in and rescue me from every attack of the enemy.”

Prayer isn’t about GOD MOVING toward us.

Prayer is about US MOVING toward God.

Exodus 33:11 NLT Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. 

 

Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” 


1.  The Outer Court: Give God THANKS. 

 

Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. 


2.  The Brazen Altar: Focus on THE CROSS. 

 

Romans 5:6 NLT When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners


Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.


3.  The Laver: OFFER every part of MY LIFE to God. 

 

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 


4.  The Candlestick: Invite the work of the HOLY SPIRIT in my life. 

 

2 Timothy 1:6-7 NLT This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

We want to make it hard for people to go to hell by making it easy for them to

go to church so they can experience, know and follow Jesus.

God.

Become a PERCENTAGE giver.

Legacy: the IMPACT or impression you leave BEHIND.

 

If you died TODAY, what would your legacy be? What does GOD desire my LEGACY to be?

 

1 Corinthians 6:20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.

How To Live A Legacy Life

1.    I didn’t LIVE for MYSELF.

Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.

Your significance THRIVES when your selfishness DIES.

1.    Don’t attack the PERSON, attack the PROBLEM.

  

2.    Acknowledge the HURT.


Song Of Solomon 5:5-6 I jumped up to open the door for my love, and my hands dripped with perfume. My fingers dripped with lovely myrrh as I pulled back the bolt. I opened to my lover, but he was gone! My heart sank. I searched for him but could not find him anywhere. I called to him, but there was no reply.

If you don’t learn to TRANSFORM your pain, you will just TRANSFER it.

3.    Seek wise COUNSEL.


Song Of Solomon 5:9-10 Why is your lover better than all others, O woman of rare beauty? What makes your lover so special that we must promise this? My lover is dark and dazzling, better than ten thousand others!


Seeking counsel isn’t a sign of WEAKNESS but a sign of STRENGTH.

 

4.    Forgive EARLY and OFTEN.


You can hold onto the GRUDGE, or you can hold onto the PERSON.

Dwell - To abide as a permanent residence or to inhabit for a time

2 Chronicles 20:2 Some people came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea. It is already in Hazezon Tamar”. 


2 Chronicles 20:3 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord…


Resolved: to firmly determine to do something.


2 Chronicles 20:12…For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.


  • Fix your focus.


Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

  • Make Worship your weapon.

2 Chronicles 20:25 -26 King Jehoshaphat and his men went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables—more than they could carry. There was so much plunder that it took them three days just to collect it all! On the fourth day they gathered in the Valley of Blessing, which got its name that day because the people praised and thanked the Lord there. It is still called the Valley of Blessing today.

I am MORE than a CONQUEROR

 

Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

 

A conqueror- does the WORK, gets the REWARD.

More than a conqueror- does NO work, but because of RELATIONSHIP, gets the REWARD.

 

1 Corinthians 15:56-57 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

 

Being ATTACKED is inevitable, but being DEFEATED is unacceptable.

 

4 Questions to ask when under attack: Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If GOD is for us, WHO can be against us?

 

1.    The OPPOSITION Question

 

Our opposition:

·      The FLESH

·      The DEVIL

·      The WORLD

 

The STRUGGLE seems great, but the SAVIOR is greater.

 

Deuteronomy 20:4 For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.

 

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son, but GAVE him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us ALL THINGS?

 

2.    The PROVISION Question

 

Jehovah-JIREH: “The LORD will provide” (Genesis 22:14).

 

The greater provision- Our SALVATION

The lesser provision- Our STUFF or SATISFACTION

 

Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus

 

Romans 8:33 Who will bring any CHARGE against those whom God has chosen?

 

3.    The ACCUSATION Question

 

Satan is called the “father of LIES” (John 8:44) and the “ACCUSER of our brothers and sisters” (Revelation 12:10) because his two main weapons are to DECEIVE you and bring up your PAST. 

 

2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

 

Romans 8:34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

 

Romans 8:35 Who shall SEPARATE us from the LOVE of Christ?

 

4.    The LOVE Question

 

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

 

My love for God isn’t CONTINGENT on what He continues to do for me but is CONSTANT because of what He did on the cross.

 

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 

God’s love isn’t based on FEELINGS but based on FACTS.

 

1 John 4:9-11 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.


Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.


I am LED by the SPIRIT. 


Everyone is led by SOMETHING.

Where does the Holy Spirit lead us? 

  • The Spirit leads us toward CHRIST.  Romans 8:3-4


  • The Spirit leads us to PEACE.  Romans 8:5-6


Romans 8:5-6 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 


  • The Spirit leads us to HOLINESS.  Romans 8:12-13


Romans 8:12-13 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.


  • The Spirit leads us to understanding our new IDENTITY.   Romans 8:14-17

Romans 8:14-17 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.


  • The Spirit leads us to STRENGTH.  Romans 8:26


Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.


  • The Spirit leads us to our ultimate PURPOSE.  Romans 8:27-28


Romans 8:27-28 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 


How to be led by the spirit? 

  1. Release CONTROL. 


Galatians 5:16-17 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Surrender is a DAILY choice to let GOD lead. 


  1. WATCH and PRAY.


Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.


There is a God-given ASSIGNMENT in every ENVIRONMENT. 


  1. Take a RISK.


James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.


The SPIRIT is too powerful and our SALVATION is too significant to play it SAFE. 


  1. Rely on God’s POWER.


2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.


A life of faith lives utterly dependent on GOD: FAILURE is inevitable without His INTERVENTION.


  1. Give God the GLORY.


Galatians 5:25-26 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.


God calls us to do things that are beyond our ABILITY so He gets ALL the glory.

#1. Develop our resilience

Gen 39:3 says, “Now his master (Potipher) saw that the LORD was with (Joseph) and how the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hand.” 

Gen 39:22, “The chief jailer committed to Joseph’s charge all the prisoners who were in the jail; so that whatever was done there, he was responsible for it. The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph’s charge because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made to prosper.”

Resilience is built when we stop resisting resistance and embrace it. 

#2. Develop our character.

Gen 39:8-9, “Behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge. There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?”

Character is who you are when no one is watching.

You build character by doing the right thing even when you know it could hurt you.

Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” 

When you choose character it might hurt you in the worlds eyes but it will never hurt you in God’s eyes.

Gen 45:5, “But don't feel badly, don't blame yourselves for selling me. God was behind it. God sent me here ahead of you to save lives.”

#3. Develop our perspective.

God’s purpose for my life is not about me.

“Sin”- Greek word: HAMARTIA- “missing the MARK” (intentionally or unintentionally) of God’s moral STANDARD or law as described in His word.


5 Reasons Sin is a Big Deal: 

  • Sin SEPARATES  Isaiah 59:2


  • Sin leads to DEATH  James 1:14-15


Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death


  • Sin keeps us from God’s BEST  Galatians 5:19-21


  • Sin TRAPS the sinner  John 8:34


  • Sin is a COUNTERFEIT  1 John 3:8


Romans 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.


  1. My IDENTITY is no longer in SIN, it is in CHRIST. 


Psalm 51:5 Surely I was sinful at birth sinful from the time my mother conceived me.


Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—


Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.


God’s GRACE does not simply address our ISSUES, it changes our IDENTITY. 


Romans 6:3-8 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

Sin is a ruthless MASTER disguised as a fun-loving FRIEND. 


Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 


Do not MANAGE sin, MURDER it. 


Romans 6:13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 


1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.


  1. When I am tempted to GIVE IN to sin, I will REACH OUT and receive God’s grace. 


Romans 6:14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.


Grace is not PERMISSION to sin; it is the POWER to live free.

I am LIVING by FAITH


Your ACCESS to everything significant in God’s kingdom happens through FAITH.


Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.


Faith is TRUST 


Hebrews 11:6 without faith it is impossible to please God


God is PLEASED when we TRUST Him. 


  1. Faith is a GIFT.  


Romans 12:3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you


Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—


Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.


The more you HEAR God, the more faith is DEPOSITED in your LIFE from God. 


  1. Faith is a KEY.


Romans 3:22-24 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.


JUSTIFICATION- just as if I had NEVER sinned

Romans 4:2-3 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”


Romans 4:23-24 The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.


Our righteousness has nothing to do with what I DO but it has to do with what He DID.


GRACE-the EMPOWERMENT to live for God


Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.


The same grace that SAVED you is the same grace that will SUSTAIN you.


  1. Faith is a MUSCLE.


The trial you are going through isn’t to BREAK you but to BUILD you.


Romans 4:18-21 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.


Faith is either EXERCIESED or ELIMINATED.


Trusting God doesn’t ELIMINATE problems. Trusting God is a CHOICE to believe that God will use my problems for a greater PURPOSE.

I am FINISHED with EXCUSES.

You can make EXCUSES or you can make PROGRESS but you can’t make both.


We are finished with excuses because:

  1. The ANGER of God is SERIOUS. 


Romans1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness


You will never be able to understand how GOOD the GOOD news is, if you don’t understand how BAD the BAD news is.


HUMAN anger: emotional response that is irrational, uncontrolled, and cruel.

GOD’S anger: righteous opposition to evil and those who choose it 


The opposite of anger isn’t LOVE, it’s PASSIVITY.


Romans 1:21-25 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.


God’s anger/ judgment is shown in:

Acceptance of sin

  1. The CREATION of God is SIGNIFICANT.

  1. The gospel is from GOD.


Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—


Romans 1:2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures


I Peter 1:20 God chose Him as your ransom long before the world began.


  1. The gospel is about JESUS.

It's the PEOPLE who don’t LOOK like the world, that will be the people who CHANGE the world. 


  1. The gospel is for EVERYONE.

Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”


Romans 1:14-15 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.


  1. The gospel is POWERFUL.

Salvation- sōtēria – WHOLISTIC transformation


The LIFE you desire will never be achieved because of SELF, but because of Christ’s SACRIFICE.

So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

II Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Daniel 3:4-6 Then the herald loudly proclaimed, "This is what you are commanded to do, O peoples, nations and men of every language: As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace."

Daniel 3:15b …But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"


A faith that is TESTED by fire is a faith that can be TRUSTED.


1.    We obey God’s COMMANDS instead of man’s EXPECTATIONS.  

Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.

Proverbs 29:25 Fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

 2.    We believe God’s TRUTH instead of the FACTS.

Daniel 3:17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.


Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

3.    We don’t just believe IN Him, we BELIEVE Him.

Daniel 3:18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Daniel 3:24-25 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”


Daniel 3:27-28 “They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair on their heads singed; their robes were not scorched and there was no fire on them. Then King Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent His angel and rescued His servants!  They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and they were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except for their own God.”

Daniel 3:1 King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, ninety feet high and nine feet wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.

You don’t have a FEAR problem, you have a FAITH problem. 


Matthew 14:22-33 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 

 About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. 


  1. Anything God leads you to do will initially involve some level of FEAR.


2.  The greatest purpose of your life cannot be discovered while you’re LIVING for SECURITY. 



  1. FEAR will never go away.

Do it SCARED.


FEAR and GROWTH are a package deal. 



4.  There are things worse than FAILURE.

5. To follow Jesus you must renounce COMFORT as your ultimate VALUE.

2 Corinthians 13:5 NLT Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.


Fake faith is DEAD.

Fake faith is DECEIVED.


James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.


James 2:17-18 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 


3 Ways To Know We Have Faith:

  1. Real faith STEPS out.


James 2:21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?


Real faith is a faith that RESPONDS in obedience when God SPEAKS.


  1. Real faith STICKS out.


James 2:25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?


  1. Real faith WORKS out.


James 2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.


We aren’t looking for PERFECTION, but we are striving for PROGRESS.


Philippians 2:12 MSG What I’m getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you’ve done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience.


Real faith is a RESPONSIVE and OBEDIENT faith.

If you want to make a difference with your life, you’ve got to get COMFORTABLE with being UNCOMFORTABLE.


Genesis 12:1-2, 4 NLT The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.


There are some things worse than FAILURE.


  1. Expect DIFFICULTIES.


Genesis 12:10 At that time a severe famine struck the land of Canaan, forcing Abram to go down to Egypt, where he lived as a foreigner.


  1. REMEMBER what God can do.


Romans 4:17 That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.


  1. Face the facts with FAITH.


Romans 4:19-20 And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb. Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.


  1. RELY on what God has said.


Genesis 15:1-3 Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.” But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.” 


A life of faith is not the ABSENCE of DOUBT.

A life of faith is MOVING FORWARD in spite of my DOUBT.


Genesis 15:4-5 Then the Lord said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it because if it prospers, you too will prosper. Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them," declares the Lord. This is what the Lord says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Get a game plan, not an escape plan.

v7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

v8-9 "Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them," declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:12-14 

"Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."
