Turning 50 & a Biking Adventure

Turning 50 & a Biking Adventure

If you are about to have a significant birthday (aren't they all) and want to be adventurous, listen to this podcast. I'm still determining how I stumbled on Heth's Goes Biking Instagram page, but I'm so glad I did. What a joy to follow someone who decides to move out of her comfort zone and do so in such a humorous way; I encourage you to follow her adventures.
Despite being an avid cake eater, Heather Miller decided to celebrate turning fifty with something other than a 50-candle birthday cake.
A recreational biker, Heather decided to take her bike adventure to the next level and announced a birthday bike adventure. Cycling 600 km around South Korea started the Heth Goes Biking Instagram page.
What have you been saying you want to do but have yet to do?
Making changes can sometimes be scary, so if you need motivation, read my book Forward After 50, The Rising Reinventors. After reading, you can permit yourself to dream on a large scale and create a plan of action.
The first step to ageing positively is downloading my freebie, The Secret to Ageing Positively, here.

Memberships, Retreats, the Importance of Connection

Memberships, Retreats, the Importance of Connection

In my book Forward After 50 , I discuss connection as an essential part of moving forward after fifty. Connection is a top value of mine, so I wanted to have Honor Marks on my podcast, as Honor is about turning midlife into something magical. Her mission is to connect women over forty-five worldwide in her Magical Midlife Membership or her retreats in the south of France.

In this episode, we discuss why midlife can be and is potentially the most magical time, and being part of a community of like-minded women is not only fabulous, but it's good for your health.

Follow Honor on Instagram and check out her Honestly with Honor website to join Magical Midlife Membership.

 Fitness is Freedom for Over-50

Fitness is Freedom for Over-50

This week's podcast features Kelly Howard, the consistency expert with a touch of adventure whose book Fit Active & Ageless for Life is our subject of discussion. Kelly and I both advocate that exercise is the key to healthy longevity. How we exercise is in our hands, which sometimes means we won't do anything. . Kelly recognises that everyone is an individual; therefore, she creates fitness plans that are doable and adaptable to what you want.  Even if you detest exercise, Kelly will convince you otherwise; her method is about adapting to make your exercise plan pleasurable. If you'd like to connect with Kelly, then go to https://fitisfreedom.com/ Kelly is offering you, the listener, her latest book for free by going to the following link: https://fitisfreedom.thrivecart.com/ebook/ If you haven't yet downloaded my freebie The Secret to Ageing Positively go to this link https://www.rebeccaronane.com/the-secret-to-ageing-positively/

Over 50? Yes, You Can Travel Solo.

Travelling solo is one of the fastest-growing demographics in the tourist industry. Yet, for some of us who haven't ventured to far-flung destinations by ourselves before, it might seem a daunting venture. Invariably, bucket lists for over-fifties women contain something to do with travel or being in a different environment. A change might mean a holiday or living in another country. So, in this episode, we discuss some ways you can travel solo and discover or rediscover somewhere that's been on your bucket list.

My 30 Days to Kickstart Your Life After Fifty email program has a chapter dedicated to travel over fifty as I know how important travel can be for some women to move forward after fifty

My fellow coach and one of the ten interviewees in my book Forward After Fifty, The Rising Reinventors is Carol Evans, my guest on this podcast. Carol loves to travel solo and in our conversation, shares many benefits of taking time out alone in an unfamiliar place and why it's not as daunting as it seems.

Carol, a business coach, runs a membership for women who want to level their lives and creates business retreats, which is one way to venture alone yet be with like-minded people. Connect with Carol to find out more with the following link. https://www.planetpeacockclub.com

Health Choices Self Care or Sidelined

Health Choices Self Care or Sidelined

In this episode, I talk to Susan Salenger about her book SIDELINED: How Women Can Navigate A Broken Healthcare System

Sidelined examines the many ways in which some women manage and sometimes mismanage their healthcare. Susan explores how women, typically the medical gatekeepers for their families, tend to be highly conscientious about taking care of themselves, yet at the same time, inadvertently undermine their care. They often hesitate to call the doctor when they don't feel well and worry that their doctor's visit will take time away from their families or work. They may hesitate to ask doctors the necessary questions and don't always comply with the doctor's instructions. Susan Salenger's research reveals how conflicted many women are about the medical decisions they ultimately make.

Susan was such a joy to talk to, and I admired that her first book was written at the age of eighty, which should inspire all of us who would like to write a book and think it's too late. No, it isn't!

You can purchase Susan's book here. Follow her on Instagram and on TikTok @grandma.gains

A Podcast Interview with Anna Jenkins creator of We are Fit Attitude

A Podcast Interview with Anna Jenkins creator of We are Fit Attitude

In this episode, I talk to Anna Jenkins about why she reinvented herself as a fitness teacher in her forties and created a women-only gym; We are Fit Attitude.
We dive into many subjects, including navigating the fitness industry's bias towards youth and exercising over fifty if you've never exercised or not exercised for a while. The advantages of having someone you can relate to and the importance of having teachers who get that different age groups have different needs, and one of them isn't being treated as if you're past it.
I found We Are Fit Attitude due to an article in the Guardian about the misrepresentation of older women and fitness in stock library pictures and how Anna Jenkins decided to address the issue.
Women-only health and fitness club, We Are Fit Attitude is a movement to empower women of all ages to love their bodies and stay fit and strong. If you'd like to learn more about joining We Are Fit Attitude, click here. You can be anywhere worldwide, as classes are also online.

Redesigning Retirement

Redesigning Retirement

In this episode, I'm talking to Christine Catoggio. She is an Internationally Recognized Life Transition Strategist, speaker, and author. We met some months ago in a zoom room organised by What's neXT a community dedicated to informing transitioners of the opportunities after retirement and much more. Christine and I found that we shared many of the same views on retirement, a word that might seem a little outdated in 2022 and more appropriate for our parent's generation. So why is that, and how can we embrace those changes? We discuss this and some of Christine's great tips to redesign and go forward after fifty.

Intergeneration and Ageism

Intergeneration and Ageism

Today's show is about Intergeneration, a subject that caught my attention whilst researching my book 'Forward After FIfty'. It seemed that an answer to the segregation of people over a certain age, let's say over-50, could be solved if the generations integrated; therefore a win, win for all. Moreover, bringing together of all ages could bring mutual respect and an evolvement of new dynamic ideas.
I came across a networking group in the U.S.A called Cirkel, whose goal is to connect people from different generations. Thanks to them, I was introduced to Alexa Fleet, who I am talking to today about intergeneration and ageism. Alexa is a social gerontologist and behavioural health integration researcher at New York State Psychiatric Institute/ Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Her work strengthens structures across the lifespan that promotes healthy ageing for all. You can contact Alexa through Linkedin

Being Over-fifty and a Carer

Being Over-fifty and a Carer

According to statistics half of all women over forty-five will be a carer. You may have dedicated eighteen years plus to your children and just when you thought it was time for you an elderly relative needs attention. In fact, many of us will spend an average of seventeen years being a carer of our parents, partners, or friends.
We all want everyone to remain in their own homes and be independent but inevitably some might need help. There are countries which are well-prepared to give their ageing population the best, in terms of support, others frankly are trailing well behind.
If so many of us are going to be carers do you know what to expect? And are we being educated sufficiently to take on this unpaid role? Teresa Murray retirement coach who cared for both of her parents gives us some tips and ideas that might be useful based on her own experience.
The book Teresa mentions in this podcast is Contented Dementia by Oliver James
