TCH Vol. III, Ep. 4: Owner of American Horrors, Comic Book Writer, Publisher and "The Most Dangerous Man in Comics" Hart Fisher

On this episode of The Calling Hours Horror Podcast, I will be interviewing the owner of American Horrors (streaming horror culture channel), comic book writer, publisher and "The Most Dangerous Man in Comics" Hart Fisher. A man that has gone through a multitude of personal and professional triumphs and lows, Hart's personal journey through comics and horror is truly a story worth hearing. After creating Boneyard Press and releasing the Jeffrey Dahmer series of comics (Jeffrey Dahmer: An Unauthorized Biography of a Serial Killer, Jeffrey Dahmer Vs. Jesus Christ and Dahmer's Zombie Squad), he made appearances on national talk shows like Jerry Springer, Sally Jesse Raphael and Larry King when his First Amendment rights were called into question. The tragic loss of his wife to cancer and other personal tragedies left Hart in a dark place, but the release of the Dahmer series on Netflix and how the show misrepresented his work on the Dahmer comics has brought him back with a vengeance! Hart will not pull any punches during his interview!

In our Digital Dismemberment Spotlight this evening, I will be covering Scream Factory's Blu-Ray release of Dark Angel!

In our Metal Massacre Spotlights tonight, we will be playing music from Prosthetic Record's Septicflesh and Imperative PR's Architectural Genocide!

TCH Vol. II, Ep. 68: Metal Massacre

On this episode, we will be doing a tribute to the great labels that provide us with the absolutely soul-crushing Death, Black, Gore and Extreme metal we get to experience every week! While I will not have a guest in studio this week, I have hand picked selections from labels such as Imperative PR (a UK based music management and PR company specializing in rock, metal and extreme music), Metal Blade Records (a heavy metal independent record label founded by Brian Slagel in 1982) and Earsplit Compound (an independent public relations company based in the greater NYC area that has been infiltrating international media outlets with extreme forms of music since 1999). (Original Air Date: 4/23/19)

Bands that we will hear tonight will include Imperative PR’s Body Harvest, Embludgeonment, and Body Harvest; Metal Blade Records’ Cannibal Corpse, Rivers of Nihil and Entrails; and Earsplit Compound’s Skinless, Morbid Angel and Goatwhore. There will be interesting facts about the labels, bands and even some horror history! It’s going to be a skull-splitting show to say the least, and we may even squeak in a few world podcast exclusives.

Along with the great music, we’ll have two Digital Dismemberment Spotlights, focusing on two great titles from Scream Factory: the Blu-Ray releases of Man’s Best Friend and the Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray Release of Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers.

As the maker of such genre fare as Hellweek (2010), Scarred (2016), Voodoo Rising (2016), American Poltergeist: The Curse of Lilith Ratchet (2018) and Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride (2018), Eddie certainly has his fingers on the pulse of what is going on in the indie horror genre! We will discuss his films, in particular Scarred and American Poltergeist: The Curse of Lilith Ratchet, filming in 6K with the Red Camera, how and where he met many of his actors and crew, some of the incredible locations he has utilized in film, the feeling of seeing his films on the shelves in stores like Wal-Mart and Family Video and the lack of press coverage in his local area. This will be a really great discussion! TCH Vol. II, Ep. 64: Gender and Racial Swapping

TCH Vol. II, Ep. 64: Gender and Racial Swapping

On this episode we will be discussing whether gender and racial swapping of characters is a boon or a bane to the horror genre. Joining me in this discussion are Morbidly Beautiful Staff writers Richard Tanner and Tavera Del Toro as we discuss these changes in films such as The Dark Tower, the upcoming CW Network show The Lost Boys as well as the comments from the Soska Twins about gender swapping the character(s) of a potential remake of David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers.

We will also discuss how the majority of these changes are to white male characters, how gender/racial swapping hurt the sales of comics, how society would react if strong female roles from established films were changed out for male characters and if we are seeing more of this because it may appease certain groups or if these changes are being made because the actors/roles would actually make these films better. Sure to be a fascinating discussion! (Original Air Date: 3/19/19)

In addition to our featured discussion, we’ll be featuring more great content in our regular segments:

  • In our first Digital Dismemberment Spotlight, we will be reviewing Scream Factory’s Special Edition Blu-ray release of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The next Generation.

TCH Vol. II, Ep. 62: Murderabilia

TCH Vol. II, Ep. 62: Murderabilia

On this episode, we will be discussing the curiosity that is Murderabilia and whether or not horror films (or even just “regular” films) glorify and romanticize the killers and the objects they leave behind. Joining me in this discussion are Morbidly Beautiful Staff Writers Jamie Marino and Joe Quinones (AKA Dungus Dundorrean) as we look into this macabre and fascinating fetish/hobby.

Murderabilia is a term identifying collectibles related to murders and murderers or other violent crimes (the term was coined by Andy Kahan, director of the Houston Police Department’s Crime Victims) and is a booming business.

We will discuss some on the names that are famous in this hobby that include Gacy, Dahmer, Bundy, Manson and more. Are these objects — including paintings, sculptures, letters, and autographs — art, or simply serial killer celebrity? Does the horror industry glamorize these killers to the point that it helps drive this industry? Sure to be a fascinating discussion! (Original Air Date: 3/5/19)

TCH Vol. II, Ep. 50: Lucio Fulci’s Impact On Horror

On this episode, we will be looking at the films of Italian Director Lucio Fulci and the impact they have had on the horror genre. Although he worked in a wide array of genres through a career spanning nearly five decades, including comedy, Spaghetti Western, adventure, science fiction and erotica, he garnered an international cult following for his giallo and horror films. His most notable films include the "Gates of Hell" trilogy − City of the Living Dead (1980), The Beyond (1981) and The House by the Cemetery (1981) − as well as Massacre Time (1966), One on Top of the Other (1969), A Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971), Don't Torture a Duckling (1972), White Fang (1973), Four of the Apocalypse (1975), Sette note in nero (1977), Zombi 2 (1979), Contraband (1980), The Black Cat (1981), The New York Ripper (1982), Murder Rock (1984) and A Cat in the Brain (1990). Because of the high level of visceral graphic violence present in many of his films, especially Zombi 2 and The Beyond, Fulci is frequently referred to as "The Godfather of Gore", a title also given to Herschell Gordon Lewis.   Joining me for this discussion will be Morbidly Beautiful staff writer Jamie Marino and my fellow FX artist Bill Mulligan. (Original Air Date: 11/27/18)

(Original Air Date: 11/20/18)

He also talks about his reputation as a controversial figure, why he refuses to “tone it down” or appeal to the politically correct culture, and how opposed he is to any kind of speech code or speech rules at a network. Finally, we discuss the films he wasn’t allowed to show, his picks for the most criminally underrated horror films, what it’s like working with celebrity guests, and how technology has changed the game for him and all horror fans.

After the enormous success of his return to the drive-in this Summer — a 24-hour takeover of Shudder with Briggs’ hand-picked selection of some of the most beloved and / or infamous horror movies of all time — the legendary horror host and B-movie connoisseur is returning with a dusk ’til dawn marathon of four horror films this Thanksgiving.
