81 How To Stop Burning Out, Getting Angry and Allow Others To Help
Hey listeners,
This week, I am tackling a concept that I think many of us are all too familiar with...overfunctioning!
This refers to taking on more tasks than one can handle due to anxiety and the belief that nobody else can do them as well. I often see this play out in romantic relationships, work settings and family dynamics.
The overfunctioner may feel stretched thin and may express anger or frustration, creating a toxic environment. I discuss the symptoms which include fear of failure, perfectionism, neglecting personal needs, strained relationships, and physical symptoms like chronic pain. Living in fear and anxiety takes a toll on our mental and physical well-being.
I provide a few helpful tips at the end if this is an area that you desire to challenge within yourself so you can have a balanced and nourishing life.

71 How Social Media Is Influencing Your Life & Prioritizing What Is Important
Hey everyone!
This week, I felt called to discuss the influence of social media. I can sense that we are going through a universal shift that is causing many of us to rethink how we use social media. It has become a source of disconnecting and reconnecting. We also spend time finding things that can help improve our life and we find content that negatively impacts us. I spend time discussing how this influence can change our choices and decisions that aren’t even ours to begin with. We get wrapped up in all the content we see on instagram, tik tok and pinterest that we don’t see how it is impacting our life. I personally have backed off because it wasn't something that brought value into my life nor did it benefit me. I hope this episode encourages you to brainstorm your priorities and what is most important to you in life.

69 What I Did With My Time Off: Moments Of Clarity, Perspective and Healing
Hey friends!
I'm back! Today, I felt it was important to review why I decided to take a month off and what I learned as a result. The reason II came to this decision was burn out. It was a whirlwind of a year trying to balancing a job, homeschooling, programs, kid stuff and my own therapy work. I was really run down mentally I was really struggling to manage.
I've just decided to surrender to controlling everything. That is just this age and stage of life where it's extremely busy and just trying to get through each day. I realized I don't want that. I want to slow down and experience life instead of surviving. Stay tuned as I talk about some big moment of clarity for me during this time.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time!

68 Am I Avoiding or Distracting?
Hey friends,
This topic is brought up frequently by clients so I thought it was important to address. Are you avoiding or distracting yourself? Avoidance is doing something on purpose. Avoidance is a coping tool that helps us to temporarily block out feelings never returning to the root cause. Distraction, on the other hand, is active and intentional. You will revisit the conflict for resolution
They serve different purposes. They are both intentional but stem from different places. One is rooted in fear, The other is rooted in giving yourself space. Throughout the episode, I share examples explaining the differences between the two.

Katelyn

67 Why Do I Care What Others Think, Limiting Beliefs and How Do They Hold Us Back?
This week, I begin by exploring why it is important to be liked by others? We all have a fear of rejection. Especially those who say they don't care. They do. If you have a fear of rejection, then you probably had a need that wasn't met or you experienced things that told you you weren't good enough. As I explored this it made me think about how limiting beliefs relate to this topic.
A limiting belief is a thought or state of mind that you think is the absolute truth and stops you from doing certain things. Both these concepts stop you from being who you are. I listed three ways you can overcome and challenge fear and limiting beliefs:
Write down your beliefs or negative self-talk statements
Reflect on what is holding you back or standing in your way
Begin to notice when you are saying certain statements or having thought in your head with your daily interactions with others.

64 What Is A Spiritual Awakening and Am I Having One?
Hey friends!
This week I am diving into spiritual awakenings. I first heard this term when I entered into recovery 12 years ago. Sometimes, it can be difficult to explain what this process feels like. There are internal shifts that happen causing you to see things very differently which prompts changes in your life. That moment of willingness is the spiritual nudge and the information you receive is the awakening. It's those aha moments where things finally connect. So you get to choose or am I gonna follow this moment or am I just going to ignore it? One just prolongs the pain and one offers relief. Below are the five stages of a spiritual awakenings that I talk about throughout the episode:
1. Glimpsing
2. Self-study
3. Seeking and following the path
4. Loss of sight
5. Seeing or become one with your path
If you are on this journey, I am here with you. You are not alone. Remember that....
With love,
Katelyn

62 Decluttering Inside and Out
Hey Hey!
After going through my journal entries I realize I have been writing a lot of the same things for years. I had a client mention spring cleaning. She related it to cleaning out the house which made her feel like it was a reflection of what was happening inside as well. It made me think of how we declutter inside and out. So you ask… where do I begin?
Sometimes if you are talking about a situation too much it can fuel this impending doom and vortex that you get trapped in it. It is the only thing you can think about. It consumes you. Or you avoid it all together. Just ignore that this same thing keeps arising for you. At first decluttering can feel scattered because you are trying to figure it all out at once. Like if I fix this and figure out why then things will improve….
Just like trying to clean out sections of the house. It doesn't feel like you get anything done if you are only doing a little bit in each room versus if you start with one room and focus on that you will feel more reward from doing it.
With love,
Katelyn

60 One About Failure Complex
Hey listeners!!
This week, I talk about my favorite topic...failure complex! Where does this come from? Why won’t it go away?
This is something so many of us struggle with yet feel like we are the only ones. We won’t go for things we are capable of out of fear of failure and have learned to take things personally and internalize that messaging. This mindset and narrative ends in shame, guilt, embarrassment and shutting down. Perfectionism is a close cousin of failure. We will try to modify and change who we are to avoid failure. We will control things around us because of that fear which only ends in more feelings of failure. The feedback look is endless until you break free of it.

59 From Sobriety To Recovery, Changing Habits and Healing From The Universal Trauma Of The Covid Pandemic with Jesse Mogle
Hey friends!!
This week I am joined by Jesse Mogle. He is the host of the From Sobriety to Recovery Podcast. I have been listening to Jesse podcast over the past year and wanted to spread his wisdom on this show. Jesse and I discusses how to embrace lessons throughout life whether you are trying to break unhealthy habits, grow as an individual or heal from trauma. Jesse talks about the the difference between sobriety and recovery. You can be abstinent and not be in recovery. Recovery is a way of living and honoring yourself. It's a state of growth, change and learning. Jesse and I also discuss a topic that we agreed isn't being talked about enough. This is healing from the covid pandemic. We are all still trying to figure out life after covid and heal from the universal trauma that we endured. Covid had a major impact on our lives that has forever changed us.

58 One About Self Sabotage and Why It's Hard To Feel Joy
Hey podcast friends!
In this freeform episode, I share some intimate details of my own personal journey. It has been hard to heal and still show up each day. I recognize I am serving my purpose. This motivates me to keep showing up no matter how difficult it can be. Self-sabotage is sneaky and conniving. It will wait to show up just when things finally feel like they are improving. It will try to take you down. It is important to remember that it isn’t about making it go away. It is about noticing it and not allowing it to take over. You are allowed to feel joy and happiness. You are allowed to be content without a problem. Life is on going. There will always be challenges, hardships and pain. We deserve to feel contentment and joy when life is actually okay.

57 Tell Me More About High Functioning Anxiety...
High functioning anxiety
Do you ever feel friends with anxiety?
Sometimes anxiety drives us to focus, be on time, prepare for a big presentation or have order in our day. Yet, we wonder why do we have it all together but your heart is racing, thoughts are scattered and you forgot to pay a bill again. Its because high functioning anxiety serves a purpose but it can also become kryptonite.
It does seem like we have a name for everything these days. It helps us understand ourselves better and label it. I know it has helped me but I can also get stuck in the label of it. This can be dangerous because we are not defined by our anxiety. We live with it. We are NOT it.
In this episode, I review the symptoms and functions of high functioning anxiety. I have listed below some of the most common symptoms. I also talk about the fawn and freeze response of the nervous system which better helps us understand why it can be difficult to regulate our bodies.
Symptoms:
Overachiever
Planner
Doer
Overthinking or analyzing
Fear of failure or striving for perfectionism
Nervous habits
Dwelling on past experiences

55 Learning About Family Roles, Dynamics and Challenging Belief Systems
Hey podcast friends!
This week I start by talking about how things are never in perfect balance. We often are focused on an area of our life and we go all in. I am also diving into family roles. This comes from family roles theory in addiction. We take on roles based on our personalities and environment. If there was a family member who had the spotlight such as mental illness, addiction, behavior or anything else then you likely fell into a role that protected you during that time. The roles are:
1. Addict/Victim
2.Scapegoat
3. Hero
4. Lost child
5.Enabler
The important thing to remember is that you do not have to live in this role. You get to choose how you want to change that. You can challenge family values and beliefs to create your own but that doesn't come naturally. As human being, we innately want to be accepted by our families. If we are challenging our beliefs than it can feel like we are betraying our family.

Hey listeners!
This week I am speaking with dr. Menajie Turner. She is located in LA, CA. She is a mother of a six year old daughter, runs a thriving group practice and is recovering perfectionism. She focuses on helping other recover from their perfectionism to live a wholesome life that doesn't feel filled with so much anxiety. I know perfectionism is one area I am always working on because I can see how it directly impacts those around me. We don't have to perfect it (pun intended) but we can practice not allowing it to interfere with our life and understanding its source. Listen for tidbits that can help you begin to let go of being perfect and just be you.

52 Mindful Parenting: Yell Less & Connect More with Hunter Clark-Fields
Hey everyone!
This week I am speaking with Hunter Clark-Fields. I am a long time fan of Hunter and her podcast. I came across her content when I felt defeated with my own parenting approach and struggles with my child. Hunter is the author of raising good humans. Her goal is to change generational patterns through mindfulness parenting techniques. She has many tools to help decrease yelling by increasing your connection with your kiddos. Hunter and I talk about how the pressures from society influence parents but mothers more specifically. We often think she should do it all which doesn't leave much room for us to be present and in-tune with our kiddos. Listen to the entire interview so helpful tips if this is an area that you are wanting to explore.

51 When To Do The Work and How To Stop "Should-ing" All Over Yourself
Hey friend!
First, I discuss how compartmentalizing can be helpful and hurtful. I understand that it can be difficult to open up Pandora's box but I am challenging you to look at why you are avoiding it. I talk about different things that can be helpful while navigating this thing called life. Compartmentalizing is a trauma response and survival technique we use to protect ourselves when things feel overwhelming. There are times when we have the capacity to process and other times we do not. I am also tackling the topic of how we “should” all over ourselves. How often do you put high expectations on yourself with “shoulds”. Maybe to go to the gym? To clean the house? To get a project done? To write that paper? It is important to understand the impact that “shoulding” will have on your internal environment. Stay tuned for the entire episode for helpful tips.

49 The Body Keep Score: Why Physical Symptoms Manifest When We Hold Onto Trauma
Hey friends!
Today on the show, I am talking about a topic that I continue to learn about but that is also near to the heart. I discuss the following:
- My own healing through EMDR.
- Body takes on stress and remembers it even if you don’t consciously know that it is happening
- Simple things can throw you into a spiral
- Dis-ease: Finding the root cause
- Changing the signals that are affecting the cells
The poly vagal theory talks all about nervous system regulation. It explores how our thoughts influence our healing. If we have limiting beliefs such as “I can't do this”, “Good things never happen for me”, “I will never be that successful” “I will never walk again” “I live in constant pain” ect then these thoughts re-enforce that pathway making it stronger.
In order to heal the body, you must recognize and release it.

47 How Recovery From Addiction Built My Confidence
Hey Hey!!
How was addiction was the catalyst to my confidence??
I don’t speak about my recovery often enough. I'm not sure why but my guess is because I burned out in the field of chemical dependency and have been focusing on other areas to help people grow. I have grown as well. I haven't necessarily grown away from my recovery but I have grown within it. I find it important to re-visit the roots of why I am here to day and who I am today because of those roots.
These are some of the milestones and moments that catapulted self-confidence:
- Trying new things and discovering I liked them
- Facing hard situations without drugs
- Walking through shame and confronting it
- Being vulnerable with positive outcomes
- Advocacy for self in the face of adversity
Please share your recovery story !! You can schedule to be on the show! Recovery from addiction, food, trauma, or whatever journey you are on right now :)

44. Why Perfectionism Keeps You From Your Confidence
Hey friends!
What would your definition of perfectionism be? How does striving for perfectionism keep you from achieving your goals? What happens when you aren’t perfect?
Many of these concepts I have talked about on the show before. All arrows point to perfectionism. We fear others seeing us as unworthy so we compensate by trying to be the best at what we do to mask our character defects.
- Fear of failure.
- Fear of making mistakes. will no longer be accepted. Trying to be perfect is a way of trying to protect themselves from criticism, rejection, and disapproval.
- All-or-none thinking.
- Overemphasis on “shoulds”
- Comparison to others
Perfectionism leads us down a nasty bumpy road filled with potholes, detours and bad weather. You can have goals without expectations which will lead to more positive outcomes and overall improved self-esteem.

42 What Is Overthinking??
Hey podcast friends!
Overthinking leads to increased feelings of anxiety, perfectionism, obsession, fixation, and feelings of unworthiness. It leads to unhelpful thoughts and emotions much like a rocking chair. It gives us something to do but doesn't get us anywhere. When we overthink, it is our attempt to control a situation to help ease our anxiety but ultimately it increases it.
The cycle of overthinking:
1. Interaction with someone
2. Ruminate about that interaction
3. Feelings of guilt and shame
4. Impact on your persona life: disconnect from others, increase depression, short-tempered, isolated, and other symptoms
There are ways to manage excessive thoughts and obsessions. The first step is awareness of the thoughts. The next step is acceptance vs. wishing it away. When we try to wish it away, we will only become more frustrated. Stayed tuned for the end because I recommend a few grounding skills that can help when these thoughts become too much.
