📚 Cozy Bookish Conversation with Fantasy Author: Melissa Blair

📚 Cozy Bookish Conversation with Fantasy Author: Melissa Blair

Here is a conversation with the author of one of my favorite reads from this past year: The Halfling Saga. There are currently two books out from this amazing series, and the third is soon to be released. If you haven’t read these books yet, they will soon be added to your TBR after listening to this conversation with Melissa Blair.

In this conversation we do absolutely talk about Melissa’s books, her inspiration, and some foundational aspects of the stories, but we also talk about what it’s like to navigate being a creative person, and even more specifically what it’s like to also live with depression. Melissa is super honest, vulnerable, and real in this conversation, and I felt incredibly honored by what she shared and the practical advice she offers listeners. I personally got A LOT out of this conversation, and I know you will too.

About our guest: Melissa Blair (she/her) is an Anishinaabe-kwe from the northern part of Turtle Island (Canada). She writes books that explore themes of colonialism, identity, cultural revitalization, and Indigenous sovereignty. When she's not writing she is posting bookish content on TikTok @melissas.bookshelf or failing to get through her massive TBR pile. Apart from books, Melissa loves board games, hiking, and movies but absolutely despises spoons.

- How Iona practices self-care in her own life

- How to get into cozy gaming as someone who’s never played before

- Below you’ll find the list of games we talk about

- Watch the Cozy Gaming Explained video on Youtube

💝 How to create your own Self-Care Toolkit

💝 How to create your own Self-Care Toolkit

I just came back from being away on vacation in Greece for two weeks with my family, and I brought with me my little traveling self-care toolkit. I thought it would be fun to talk you through my process in creating it, how it serves and supports me, and how you can create one for yourself!

✨ See photos of the kit by clicking on the latest blog post on our website: https://www.themoonflowerpath.com/podcast

Prompts:

Why do you want to create a self-care toolkit? What needs and desires do you see it serving?

What are your values? How might your self-care toolkit help you live out by those values?

Where and how do you foresee yourself wanting to use your self-care toolkit? Will it be something that supports you more in practice or on-the-go? Or both?

In the situations answered in prompt 3, what do you find you need or want the most support with?

🖤 Gently Grieving w/ Queer Counsellor: Mady Harber

🖤 Gently Grieving w/ Queer Counsellor: Mady Harber

How do you care for yourself (and others) when you're grieving? What even IS grief?

In this conversation with Queer Counsellor, Mady Harber, we talk about:

  • Mady’s personal story and journey with grief, and how it’s shaped how she shows up as human and a counsellor

  • The somatic side of grieving

  • How we all experience grief in different forms and different ways and how to support yourself through its ups and downs

  • How to gently support a friend in their grieving process

  • What to expect in the very special Gently Grieving workshop happening in The Moonflower Path Community Space later this month – which you can register for today!

This is a very tender and vulnerable conversation, and I feel so honored that Mady felt comfortable to share as she did, because I know you’ll get a lot out of it, no matter what your relationship with grief is.

🍂 Join the workshop: Gently Grieving

About our guest:

Mady (she/her) is a registered social worker, counsellor and the Clinical Director of Burn Bright Counselling. Burn Bright Counselling is a queer affirming counselling practice specializing in supporting the LGBTQ2S+ community. She has lived on unceded Lekwungen and WSANEC territories (otherwise known as Victoria, BC) for the past 10 years. Mady is also a daily griever. It is through her intimate relationship with grief that she has been able to understand what an important part of healing, growing and living that grief plays. Mady seeks grounding and stability in time by the ocean, in the forest and on her skates (playing roller derby!).

19. Self-Care Supports for the Summer as a Highly Sensitive Person

About this episode:

The summer is full, boisterous, busy, and just a lot. For some highly sensitive folk, or moonflowers, it doesn’t feel so great, and that’s okay! The way you feel during the warmer months is valid. So instead of wishing you didn’t feel this way, let’s use the way you feel to guide what supports will help support you this Summer. Over the past few years, I have personally acquired self-care supports that have drastically improved my relationship with Summer, and I share them with you in this episode.

About this episode:

Typically yoga nidra is a practice folks turn to when they are looking for deep rest and for help with sleep. Which is wonderful, yet there is so much more to be found in this practice. I believe that by introducing yoga nidra into your self-care journey, as a way of embodying your heart's desires and intentions, is a radical way to push against hustle culture and grinding towards your goals. Give this episode a listen if you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, and are looking for a way to feel sustained and supported on your self-care path, back home to yourself.

This is real Carolynne sharing with you, unedited, and un scripted. Thank you for holding space for my words, moonflower.

  1. Would you consider yourself someone who is creative?

  2. How do you define creativity?

  3. How has creativity served and supported you in your life?

  4. How has creativity felt like a burden sometimes in your life?

  5. Would you consider creativity more something that comes from you, or gives back to you? Do you tend to use creativity as a self-care tool, or is creativity something that comes from you having practiced self-care? Or is it both?

  6. What would it look like for you to use your own definition of creativity and carve out some time to nurture that part of you this month?

  7. What role does your body play in your creative self?

  8. What role does curiosity play in your life?

  9. Is there one thing that you’re struggling in your life right now that you could use your curious and creative nature to lovingly address?

  10. If you shed all the shoulds around what creativity should look like or should mean or should say about who you are… how would that change the way you play with your creativity?
