Philippians 2:5-11 ‘The central core meaning of Christmas’

He emptied Himself, He took away, but added, “by taking the form of a bondservant.”

The second paradox of our text is that the Lord has become a slave.

Remember in v6 being in the form of God. The word for form is “morphe.” His was the “morphe of God” and now using the same word ‘morphe,’ He came in the morphe of a servant, “the form of a servant.” All that is true of God, is true of Jesus.

All that is true of a servant, is also true of Him.

Philippians 2:5-11

‘God’s eternal plan for Christmas’

The issue is that God the Son stepped out of eternity into time, becoming the God-Man in order to provide the way in which people can be saved.

This thought, this mindset should shape our very existence to realise that our Triune God did something remarkable on that first Christmas. That God came amongst us, that He took on flesh, that He humbled himself even to the point of death on a cross in order to save us.

Job 40 ‘When God Speaks’

In Job 41:1, the opening verse, describes something called "the Leviathan".

What’s more puzzling isn’t so much the identity of Behemoth or Leviathan, but that forty-four verses devoted to them, at this point in the story. Think about that.

Job is at the end of his tether when God finally speaks. He simply didn’t know the answer to any of God’s questions. Job confessed to his limitations as a finite human being.

Philippians 2:5-11 ‘The Voice of Christmas’

The Loud Voice of Christmas is Christ’s voice and it’s about Him. It’s a call for unity of mind concerning Christ and it’s a call to community to live out the beliefs of our Christian faith in our Christian love toward one another.

In the Shorter Catechism of the Westminster Confession of Faith, there is a great summary of the incarnation of Christ in Q21.

Q. 21. Who is the Redeemer of God’s elect?

A. The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man and so was, and continues to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, forever. Here is an amazing summary of what happened on that first Christmas.

Job 38-39 ‘When God Speaks’

When God finally speaks in Job and to Job then one aught to listen. In fact this not only applies to Job but also to all of us. When God speaks we might not always hear what we want to hear but we will hear what God wants us to hear.

That’s the major difference and its up to us to be prepared to listen and ponder and consider and ultimately accept what God says.

Romans 12:3-8

‘Grace, Humility and Service’

As Christians how should we use the gifts, the abilities, and the resources we have to help one another.

In v3 I want us to look at the area of humility.

In v4-5 I want us to look the communion of the saints.

Then in verses 6-8 I want us to look at the purpose of spiritual gifts.

Job 19 ‘God my Saviour’

Job’s problem is that he is beginning to think that God is his enemy, and that God is angry with Him. Of course this isn’t true.

Its not until he acknowledges that God is actually his saviour, his redeemer that he is able to begin his recovery of mind.

Acts 2:40-47 'Why become a member of a local church?'

So why would we look at the question, of becoming a Church member?

When Jesus gave his final words concerning the Great Commission, in Matthew 28:19-20. He said

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

One reason is the great commission.
