Excuses | ep131
So this episode was supposed to come out weeks ago, but... Let me stop myself right there! This is the problem; I instantly use an excuse instead of taking ownership of poor planning, time management, etc. This week on the show, I talk about excuses. I break down some reasons why I think we make excuses and talk through some ways to combat that instinct. This episode is one of those where I'm definitely talking to myself, but I hope you also have something to walk away with. Enjoy!
Bucket of Love w/ Deb | ep130
We have all had those relationships where we feel like maybe we are giving a little bit more than the other, but we just don't know what we should do. Do we hold back to balance things out or do we press on and continue as everything is okay? I don't think there is a right answer to this question but maybe we need to look at the question in a different light. This week on the show my good friend Deb joins me to talk all about relationships and how we show up in them. You are getting an insight into our monthly conversations where we start with work and then quickly pivot into three different topics at once!
I hope you can learn something new or at least think about your relationships in a different light after listening to this. Enjoy!
Do It Together w/ Kaela | ep129
Relationships are tough! Whether we are talking about romantic relationships or not, we must do things to make them work. This week on the show, Kaela joins me in discussing how to come together in a relationship to make it work. We talk about the importance of communication, serving others and a few other aspects that we believe to be important to having strong relationships. We talk through some of our past "discussions," and hopefully, you find some humor and some nuggets of info that you can bring to your relationships.
Check out the full video on Spotify and Youtube!
Slow Burn w/ Courtney | ep128
Sometimes life changes on us quickly and we have to adjust. That adjustment may not come as fast as we would like, but we have to continue after it, consistently to see the results in the long run. This week, Courtney joins me on the podcast to discuss her story and journey into running. We talk about identity, finding balance, relationships and a handful of other topics. Enjoy!

Faith | ep127
Have you ever thought about the "why" you make the decisions you do? Like where do you have your trust and focus that has you lean one way versus another when making a decision? I know I talk about it a lot on the show in regards to understanding you, but I recently heard a quote regarding faith and actions that got me thinking. This week, I talk about faith and this aspect of "it's not if you have faith, but what do you have your faith in?" This is not an episode on religion (willing to have that convo if you'd like), but really just the big picture when we think about what we have faith in. Hope you enjoy it!

Common Ground w/ Jessi | ep126
We are able to accomplish more when we can get together as a group going towards a collective task or goal. Sometimes it can be tackling a large problem and other times it could be running a marathon, literally. This week on the show, Jessi joins me to talk a little bit about how running “side by side” helped build relationships and push our crazy to the limits. She is on her journey of running a marathon in all 50 states and has quite a few races under her belt. We had a great conversation about so many things!

Perspective | ep125
New year and a new word! Looking ahead at 2024, I had been pondering what my "one word" would be for the year. What word would be integral to accomplishing everything I wanted for the year.
Perspective
Today on the show, I go over my thoughts about perspective and how it really can be the basis for a lot of our day to day actions. When we have the right perspective, we can spend our time and energy focused on the right things, which will get us the results we set out for in the first place. Enjoy!
Look Back and Learn | ep124
As we approach the end of the year, we often take a look back and reflect on all that we did. Unfortunately, we tend to focus primarily on what we wanted to do, but didn't. Or maybe the things that we tried to do but "failed." Today on the show, I talk about reframing our mindset away from the "checklist" of the things I completed vs didn't and shifting that thought process to "What did I learn through the process." If we focus specifically on only what we completed, we are missing out on so much of our learning opportunities in the tough times. I hope you can reframe this thinking to set yourself up for a better mindset heading into 2024.
Thanks for sticking around for another year of the podcast. I'll be taking a few weeks off for the holidays but will come back strong at the beginning of the year with some fresh ideas and great new (and returning) guests!
AI Purpose | ep123
Sometimes, I like to do things a little bit differently and that is what this episode is! I've wanted to see how well ChatGPT could put together a script for an episode, so I finally tried it out. This week's shorter episode is just a script from ChatGPT about purpose and intentionality. I was going to include some personal insights and stories but I decided to leave it verbatim to see what it would output.
I think it brought up some interesting thoughts that maybe I can use for inspiration for future episodes, but what did you think? Let me know your thoughts on how well it broke it down.

Am I Lost? | ep122
Talk It Out w/ Kelli | ep121
Sometimes, there can be topics that we just don't bring up, as we can get a little uncomfortable. This often happens when it comes to relationships between parents and their kids. Since I don't have first-hand experience with this, I had the pleasure of having Kelli from On Our Best Behavior podcast on the show this week to talk through her story. She started a podcast with her son that has turned into an opportunity to bring up topics that range from menstrual cycles to bullying. We chat about how sometimes we need to talk it out and know that we won't always know the answers, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be curious and at least start the conversation. It's amazing how much we can learn about something with just a little bit of curiosity.
I had a blast talking with Kelli and hearing her story and hopefully, you resonate with that too! Be sure to check out On Our Best Behavior wherever you listen to podcasts, but for now, enjoy this episode!

One Step at a Time | ep120
So often, we look too far ahead at our destination or goal that we lose sight of the journey along the way. When we remove our gaze from the next step, we are more likely to stumble or even worse, start drifting or compromising when it seems to far out of reach. This week on the show, I break down a little more the idea of taking "one step at a time." I take a look back at my recent races and then apply some context in how we can apply this to all aspects of our lives. A lot of the episode is off the top of the head, so I go in a few directions, per usual, but I hope you find some takeaways in it. Enjoy!

Define You | ep119
Do you ever hear a poem or a song and it just resonates with you on a deeper level? This episode came to be from exactly that. This happened to me recently from a reel on Instagram. It had my brain thinking and working it all out on a different level. Taking the thoughts from Louis the Hippe about having others define you, turned into my thoughts about why we do this, scratch that, why I do this!
This week on the show, I talk about those ideas and go a little freeform from the notes to give my evening thoughts on the matter. We allow others to dictate who we are and then start living as though it’s who we had always been. We take away our definition of self for the perception of another. I’ve enjoyed these last few episodes of just off the top of my head, but don’t worry, we will get back to some formal interviews soon. Enjoy!
Do It | ep118
You hear it all over the place. From social media, coaches, I mean even this podcast! The idea that we need to make it happen. We need to do it! But even though it’s a simple message, it isn’t always easy. This week on the show I break down some of my thoughts regarding barriers to us being able to “do it”. This is a topic I have talked about in parts but this episodes merges them together a bit. Hope you get something from this, as I did while recording! Enjoy!

YOLO | ep117
You hear this from all over the place. YOLO! You only live once, so do whatever you want. Live up your best life, doing what you please. But what if we flipped it around and used that YOLO mentality to serve someone else? This week on the show, I dive into exactly that. This thought came to me during a run about what if we changed our mindset and looked first to serve others. I believe that there are simple ways to do this with what we may consider just everyday things that can actually be game-changers for someone else. I hope that you enjoy this episode and that it makes you think a little bit and challenges you to get out of your comfort zone!

Back to Basics | ep116
Back at it! This week on the show, I catch up on how the summer has been going and all the moving around we have been doing (literally to Chicagoland). More importantly, I talk about the idea of bringing it back to the basics. So often we do nothing at all because we overwhelm ourselves before giving ourselves a shot. We can easily get caught up in what everyone else thinks or how everyone else will react that we just end up not acting at all. Sometimes we have to just bring it back to basics, take one step at a time and just move forward. This rang true for me as I wanted to get to recording for the last few weeks but just kept providing excuses for myself until I realized, "wait a second, I'm doing exactly what this episode is supposed to be about!" So there ya have it, I'm glad to be back and I hope you enjoy the episode!

Finding Joy w/ Heidi | ep115
In life, we all have different paths that we take. We tend to lean into the paths that are more comfortable, sometimes limiting what we do to stay in those walls of comfort. But what if we reframed our minds, took the time, and found joy in the things that help us grow? This week on the show, Heidi joined me to discuss the topic of finding joy. She shares a little bit about her journey and how that has led to helping numerous folks unlock their potential and find joy! Connect with Heidi - https://www.instagram.com/strong.mama.miles
The Middle | ep114
Isn't it interesting how much support and energy we feel at the beginning and end of things? How it pushes us to jump off the start quickly or maybe we sprint once we see the finish line? But what about when you are in the middle, how are you pushing on? I think when we can understand how best to react in the middle, that's when we see can see the most growth. This week on the show I break down this idea of the middle and the mindset shift we sometimes need to power through. Understanding that the middle is where all the growth happens and that allows us to make it to the finish. Enjoy!

Who They Be w/ Kati | ep113
Everyone once in a while, you just need to go off script! That is exactly what Kati and I did this week on the show. We just talked about everything that is going on in our lives and ended up spending a lot of time talking about being and doing. When we try to follow someone else's to-do list, we can end up living a life that isn't our own and end up unfulfilled in it. But when we focus on "who they be", we can thing take things from that and learn how to incorporate that into our lives and "how we be" (yes all the poor grammar I know). There are so many good nuggets of information scattered throughout the episode, most of which will probably turn into another episode and a reason to have Kati back on the show, but for now I hope you enjoy and can use some of the takeaways in your life!

Rushed | ep112
When things slow down, do you enjoy the "rest" or do you find a way to fill the "free time"? If you are anything like me, the quiet is an uncomfortable place to sit. But when did busy become our default mode? When did we start rushing through things, always in a hurry to fill every moment? This week on the show I discuss my thoughts on this topic. I take a look into my current situation and try to think of ways to embrace the quiet in order to slow down. This episode has like 4-5 mini topics in one but wanted to be authentic in the moment. Hope you enjoy!

Rules w/ Marin | ep111
How often do we get to a place where we said we can’t do something, you know, just because. It’s always been that way or that’s just how you were told things worked. Throughout life we end up building this rulebook in our heads that is then used to limit the actions that we take. When we allow the rulebook to dictate our actions we are limiting our potential of new experiences and growth.
This week on the show I have Marin joining me. She is a decision coach that helps her clients make confident, aligned decisions for a better life. We use this idea of a “rulebook” to wrap in lots of thoughts from beginning again to scarcity to opening up and being curious and taking that step through the door. It was such an amazing conversation as we put out challenges for all of you (and ourselves if being honest) to help change our perspectives and see things from more than one side to get a more developed picture. I can’t wait to have her on the show again in the future and you will understand after you listen to the episode. Enjoy!

Uncertainty | ep110
We all face moments of uncertainty in our lives. Whether it’s with where to live or a job situation or maybe even just life in general, what is the next step you should take. This week on the show I dive into uncertainty. Long time listeners may remember this topic on a previous episode (ep030 from 2020) but this time I get a little more personal. I take a look at my current season of uncertainty and I use that as a guide to help you (but mostly me) think through how best to use it. Just like I have talked about the last few weeks, we can lean into a more positive posture and see this season in a new light.
If you are currently in an uncertain situation or circumstance, I hope you can use these tips and thoughts from this episode to help shift your perspective and use this season as a tool to promote growth in your life. Enjoy!

Problem Solving | ep109
You ever notice a kid when they are trying to figure something out? They are just so curious when faced with a problem and so determined to find the "solution" by any means necessary. This week I talk about how we can learn a little bit about problem solving from little ones based on an interaction I had with one of my roommates (yes I mean the kids). I break down a workflow I think could help us process through problems a little bit better and also dive into how our feelings can sometimes get in the way of us making a larger impact. Enjoy!

Chasing Purpose | ep108
Chase your purpose. I've heard this motivational mantra more times than I can count. But in the last few weeks I really started to think about if that really is the best way to go after your purpose. This week on the show I break down why I think chasing purpose may not be the best way to take find and fulfill your purpose. Sometimes it's as simple as a change in a few words and reframing our minds to align our values with our purpose to keep on course. Enjoy!

No Place Like Home | ep107
"There's no place like home." You may have heard this before but this past week I had been thinking, what is actually my "home"? Is it a location, or can it actually be much more than that? This week I dig into this thought and while catching up a little bit on our recent vacation our west. I think this is such a simple topic but I hope you get something from this little bit of insight into my life. Enjoy!

Take it from top w/ Jen | ep106
When we think about the time we have in a day, or maybe even the money from our paychecks, it's funny how it can never seem like enough. We would love to work out but how would I fit that in between work, family and all of the other little things I have to do in a day. But I think we are thinking about this backwards and my guest this week agrees. Jen and I talk about her story and how she needed to make changes in her life if she wanted to spend many more years with her family. She knew that in order to make those changes she needed to not just find time but make it by taking it from the top. When we prioritize things in our lives by assigning them time and value, we then start to line up the things that are actually life changing and the things that are "fillers" tend to just fall off. I really enjoyed our conversation and I hope it challenges you to prioritize time rather than trying to find time.

Get out there | ep105
Sometimes we get into these funks where each day just is the same thing, a groundhogs day kind of vibe. How do we get into these situations and why do end up sitting in them for so long before "waking up" in a way to it? This week on the show I give some thoughts and ideas about how getting out there and trying something new or taking a risk can open up not only growth in your life, but lead you to new opportunities and experiences. I lean a little bit into my story and how just taking a "few steps" while training for a 5k has forever changed the way I interact with folks at large. Enjoy!

What's Next? w/ Laura | ep104
Throughout our lives we spend time planning and achieving goals in our lives. Sometimes once we “complete” these goals and we share with others, their response is less about learning about the journey but leans more towards, “that’s cool, so what are you doing next?”. I don’t think folks have malicious intent with this line of thinking but I do think it shows how in our culture we tend to focus on the finish line rather than the journey along the way.
This week on the show we welcome back Laura and we dive into this subject. We talk about her journey going through her Fathers List and where it has taken her and how she has grown. Her book (pre-order link below) will give more insight into that journey but we ended up focusing on how we spend our time and how many times people value comfort and their own way of thinking rather than pushing themselves.
As always it was an amazing conversation with Laura and I am very excited to read her book coming out this summer!

We all have those people in our lives that no matter how crazy of an idea, they are always in! This week i have my good buddies Chad and Josh on the show talking about one of those recent experiences for us. These guys have not only run races all over the place with me, but have also supported things like my birthday runs, my 6hr track fundraiser and really any dumb idea that seemed "fun" enough to try. We talk through our weekend taking on the Dopey challenge and all of the fun that happened during the races but even more so the shenanigans that happened in between.

We all wish we had a little more time but as the saying goes "time flies when you're having fun." Experiment | ep099
Sometimes we just to reframe our thoughts in order to stretch ourselves. So often we don't do things because we are worried about failing. But what if we reframed the item as an experiment. And the results aren't a pass/fall but rather a it worked or didn't work. Or maybe I enjoyed it or it's not for me. This week I talk about this idea of experimenting in order to help promote getting a little uncomfortable for the sake of growth or trying something new.

Identity w/ Morgan | ep098
Far too often we limit ourselves in a box and call it our identity. Or maybe even worse we allow others to say how we should live our lives and the things we should be doing. We can get so wrapped up in our identity that we forget to actually just be. This week on the show Morgan joins me to talk about her identity. She talks about the identity struggles she had as a mother and runner and how she works out the balance. I had an amazing time talking with her and I hope you enjoy listening! Things | ep097
We tend to acquire new things that we think are going to add value to our lives. I think for the most part that is exactly what those items end up doing for us, if not we get rid of them. But sometimes those items end up playing a different purpose in our life. Sometimes they become a crutch for comfort, sometimes they become a distraction or maybe sometimes they make us forget what their purpose was in the first place. This week I talk about those things. How can we be aware of those things and how we can make sure we are being intentional not to let "things" control our actions.

This happens far too often during to me during races, but I don't think it's a bad thing. Every time I'm able to learn more about myself, my thoughts and feelings and more importantly how to snap out of it. How often do people put labels on us? They trap us in a "box" and group us in order to be able to identify us? I think this happens often, but not as often as when we put labels on ourselves. We use these labels to provide an explanation for our actions or maybe even so we can be comfortable in not having to try things that our outside our "label". This week on the show I talk about labels and how I think we use them as a crutch. Let's break away from labels and show the world we are more than are more than just one-sided!

When you car needs a wheel alignment, things aren't just right. Your car keeps heading in a direction you are not intending for it to go and you have to work hard to keep it straight in the direction you'd like to go. The same thing happens in our lives. Even with the best intentions, if we don't have proper alignments things won't go as we hope.

Greatness | ep091
When you think of greatness, what comes to mind? Or maybe better asked, who comes to mind? I'm sure you thought of someone that was in a high position. Or maybe it was someone with a lot of influence. We tend to think that those are the only people that can be "great" and that no matter how much we strive for it, it just isn't meant for us. This week on the show I talk about this idea of greatness and how it really isn't about position or influence but about something that we can all harness to be great.

There are times in our lives that we end up putting on an act to be the person that others expect us to be. Or maybe we hide our feelings and emotions in order to put others first and we don't take care of ourselves.
This week I have Telsah on the show and we talk about really asking yourself "what do I want". Set yourself free w/Chris | ep087
Sometimes we are our worst critics and end up holding ourselves in bondage instead of giving ourselves the grace to be free. We hold ourselves back for many reasons including, fear, judgement, confidence, etc. This week we have Chris back on the show to continue our talk about negativity and see how we can set ourselves free. We talk about so many great things about the ways that we hold ourselves back and some helpful ways that we can unlock the truth and be the people we want to be.

Give Thanks | ep086
It's that time of year where we reflect and give thanks to those in our lives. But maybe we need to glance a little further back and be thankful for the things that took place to get us where we are today. Maybe it's a positive change or maybe things haven't gone the way you planned, either way they have made you the person you are today. And armed with that information you can take your next steps with a little more purpose knowing what you know. This week I talk about this concept and how I feel it can really help guide your next steps.

Redirection w/ Amanda | ep085
We have talked about the idea before that in most cases we can not control what happens to us, but we can always control our reaction. But when we face rejection or a negative circumstance that can be really tough to pivot from and react positively. This week Amanda joins me on the show and we talk about how when rejection or pushback comes, she reframes it as a redirection to a better opportunity. We talk about her story and how redirection allowed her to break out of complacency but to live life to the fullest.

Double Click Culture w/ Kristjana | ep084
Have you ever found yourself just scrolling through Instagram "double clicking" posts over and over again? Not even realizing what you are liking because you just want to provide that feedback. Or maybe you sit in your notification waiting to count all the likes after you post something new. Why don't we get out of the "double click culture" and start really connecting with people? Maybe even have a real conversation? This week Kristjana and I talk about exactly this. We talk about how we use social media and how knowing your purpose will help drive engagement and real connection with those you communicate with on social media.

Detach and Reset w/ Kati | ep082
It's been a crazy last 18 months or so. I think sometimes when we go through these kinds of seasons we need to take that step back and really evaluate the choices we have made and the path we are moving forward on. This week we welcome Kati back on the show to talk about exactly that. This idea of detaching from labels/circumstances/ideas and just hitting reset. It was such a great conversation as always and I hope you enjoy it!
