Whenever I watch it or read it, I cannot help but think of the Fellowship’s “plunge” into the darkness of Moria and return to daylight as a sort of baptism for the entire group, especially Gandalf the Grey. As we consider this scene, let us keep the themes of death and resurrection in our hearts and minds.
