Hispanic Heritage Month Feature - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Hispanic Heritage Month Feature - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Buenos Días! I’m Tatiana Barajas, I’m Ashleigh Esquivel, and we are Spanish 6 Honors. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, today we are going to learn a bit more about Hispanic icon Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became US Representative for the 14th Congressional district in New York at the age of 29, making her the youngest woman and youngest latina to ever hold office in the US Congress.

The Congresswoman quickly gained a reputation as an effective questioner in committee hearings and has accomplished a lot for our nation such as getting major pharmaceutical companies to lower the price of their drugs and getting millions in federal funding returned from a fraudulent defense contractor.

Throughout all of that she’s also maintained a commitment to doing a town hall nearly every month of her first term. Her devotion to her constituents is apparent in the work that her District Office has done to serve over 1,400 people and provides a shining example of how knowing your community, no matter how minor, can assist you in giving them a voice.
