This work tackles the complex history of Australia as a post-colonial state still dominated by the descendants of its colonizers and how this has affected its relationships with other regional powers in matters of war, diplomacy, human rights and liberalism. Primarily focused on the First World War and post-Second World War eras, it shows how shifting global alliances, domestic politics, and an uncomfortable relationship with liberal democracy outside of its own borders has yielded a conflicted history that strongly reflects the desires of stronger global powers that Australia has bandwagoned with to increase its own global influence.
