What I have learned as a seasoned sleep coach
Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of assisting numerous families in achieving peaceful and restful sleep routines within their homes. It's been evident that many mothers and some fathers – but let's be honest here, primarily mothers - have harboured apprehensions about embarking sleep training programs.
The thought of potential tears and the idea of adjustments to current sleep patterns required often loomed large and felt overwhelming.
In this week's podcast hear how I have coached and supported parents through these transitions and what I have learned from it in my 7 years as a sleep consultant.
I would love for you to share this podcast with all your parent friends and let them know I am here to help you with my podcasts and more!

A guide to dropping night feeds
💥 3 ways to stop night feeds!
There comes a point in parenthood that you start to wonder “is my baby ready to drop night feeds and if so how do I do it”.
You may be a sleep wreaked parent reading this, broken from waking up to 10 times a night and finding yourself feeding baby back to sleep because it is the only way your baby will go back to sleep, you may be that parent who has an 18 month old waking in the night demanding milk and you are wondering does she really need it? But if I don’t give it to her she IS going to scream the house down…what can I do?
This weeks podcast I am going to explain 3 ways you can drop night feeds and when it may be appropriate to do so and of course the science behind waking for feeds and how that can lead to a vicious cycle to continuingly wake for feeds in the night.
I would love for you to share this podcast with all your parent friends and let them know I am here to help you with my podcasts and more!

Your 4 month old schedule
As new parents, the journey from birth to 16 weeks can pass super quickly but for some it can go slowly, be really hard and exhausting. It is filled with joy, many questions every day and night and, of course that goes with a few sleepless nights to boot!
Sleep is a crucial aspect of your baby's development and as I explain in my Newborn Workshops, it is all about supporting that sleep, NOT sleep training.
You may start wondering how to establish healthy sleep patterns at this age and ask what a schedule looks like for a 4 month old. In this weeks bitesized podcast I explain the sleep needs of a four-month-old, common challenges, and some practical tips to ensure both you and your little one get the rest you need so you feel good about getting up and starting each day with an energetic smile!
I would love for you to share this podcast with all your parent friends and let them know I am here to help you with my podcasts and more!

Unravelling the role of nutrition in your baby's sleep
As parents, we all strive to ensure our little ones get the essential sleep they need for optimal growth and development and of course to feel rested the following day so they are alert and no meltdown by 9am..!
While techniques like sleep training, establishing nap schedules, and bedtime routines are often discussed and implemented, the influence of nutrition on a baby's sleep is frequently overlooked. This is a major part of my sleep plans I create for my 1-1 families.
Join me in this weeks podcast as we explore the intricate connection between breastfeeding, formula feeding, introducing solids, and how they affect the quality of your baby's sleep.

Tips and tricks for Christmas sleep
Regardless of whether you have plans to travel this Christmas or not, I know that it's an incredibly thrilling time of year, especially for the children. After all, Christmas tends to revolve around them the most. However, amidst all the excitement, it's essential to consider the impact on their sleep. Excited toddlers may want to stay up later, hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa. Additionally, if you're going away for a few nights, they might be sleeping in a new bedroom or sharing a room with others and that may cause some anxiety in the family. But don't worry! In this week's podcast I give you simple tips to help you keep bedtimes on track during the holidays.

Soothing Your Newborn with the 5'S
Becoming a parent, whether for the first or fifth time, is a challenging but wonderful experience filled with anticipation and, for some, anxiety. It signifies a major life change, particularly in terms of sleep, which will likely be disrupted for a while to come yet... The common phrase "slept like a baby" doesn't accurately describe how newborns sleep, as they can be quite restless and fussy, leading to stressful moments and days. In such times, parents may wonder how to help their newborns calm and settle.
In this week's podcast, I delve into Dr. Karp's renowned "Five S's" technique for soothing and calming your newborn infant hopefully bring you a little more calm and peace and equipping your with the knowledge and tools of what to do and how to do in those moments when your baby just does not seem to settle...

How to get your Newborn to nap
Newborns are easily overstimulated, which can make it difficult for them to nap. Their sleep is unpredictable and sleep patterns are all over the place. Your new baby will need frequent naps in the day but sometimes those naps can be hard to achieve. It can be challenging, frustrating and overwhelming sometimes. Often the phrase “sleep like a baby” does not even make sense when referring to a baby who just won’t fall asleep easily or even stay asleep, we think of this phrase meaning that babies will just fall asleep easily and peacefully but not always is this the case.
In this week's podcast I go over the important things that you need to look for and have in place for your baby to take a great nap.
If you are struggling with your babies sleep I am here to help, guide and support you. You can book in your FREE sleep assessment call HERE and we can have a chat about what is going on and how best I can help and support you through it.

Is movement in the cot normal?
Brand new babies are often very still in the cot when sleeping aside from that Moro reflex kicking in. They can of course be and are noisy when they sleep and those noises often come with some wriggling about but what is normal and what is not? What about when babies grow and get older...?What does that movement look like if it is not so normal and what should you do about it? This weeks podcast I explain what to be looking for and when, as in the most "popular" time of night babies tend to move about most and why...!

Real life family sleep story - From co sleeping to sleeping independently
Fourth time round Mum, Kate had this sleep thing in the bag…then lockdown happened. And home schooling with a new born happened. And sleep deprivation happened. Co sleeping and sling naps became the norm, It was the only way to get through the day and ensure everyone’s needs were being met in some shape or form, but Mum got to a point this was not sustainable anymore.
She knew Minty needed more consolidated sleep and the rest of the family's needs were not being met.
Listen to this week's podcast to find out how Kate’s family went from sleep deprivation to calm, peaceful nights with great day time naps to top it off!

When it comes to transitioning out of the swaddle you may wonder what the best sleep sack is to purchase for your baby. With so many options on the market it can be hard to decide what the best one to go for is.

Should I be offering my baby a dream feed?
A dream feed is a method used by some parents to offer a late-night feeding, usually between 10 and 11pm, initiated by them just before going to bed. The idea is to feed your baby while they are still sleepy and not fully awake, however, it's important to note that not all babies will benefit from a dream feed which I explain in this podcast.
If your baby in under 6 months the dream feed may be something you are considering but not sure how to do it or even what the signs are if it is working or not. If your baby is over 6 months and still taking a dream feed it could actually be causing night wakings...
This weeks podcast I explain it all for you and of course how to do it safely to ensure your baby does not vomit or choke.

Overtiredness and how that can affect your child's sleep
Too often parents put their child down to bed later in the evening in the hope their child will sleep a little later the following morning. Unfortunately the majority of the time, it backfires and the child wakes at their usual time or even earlier - does 5am sound familiar to you? Why does this happen?
They are overtired. The body has a higher level of cortisol in it due to overtiredness and this cortisol (one of many different chemicals that the body requires to wake up) is what drives us to wake up each morning.
Now there are other ways overtiredness can affect your child and it can creep iin from other places not just a late bedtime.
In this week's podcast I explore the reasons in more details for you and of course solutions for you to implement and so you can wave good bye to that overtired child you have and hello to a happier, rested family!
If you would like to chat about your child's sleep please feel free to book in your free discovery call HERE!

Stress free Meal Prepping with The Batch Lady
Having been a nanny for 20 years and a mum myself for almost 8 years I have planned and prepped hundreds and hundreds of family meals. Never in my life has it become so easy as it has now after the help from the genius that is Suzanne - The Batch Lady!
Suzanne has joined Holly and phillip on "The Sofa" over on ITV's "This Morning", written cookbooks and has a huge following over on INSTAGRAM with videos, lives and tips for your family meals, recipes and planning.
This weeks podcast is the live we did on Instagram and I wanted to make it more accessible for you to reach by bringing it to your earbuds!
I often direct my families I work with towards adopting The Batch Lady method because the days are busy and fly by and having to cook 3 times a day is not so much fun or easy with small children around. That's when The Batch Lady comes into play, "shop once, cook once and eat well all week"!
How amazing does that sound!
So listen on and enjoy and don't forget to rate and review the podcast! It means a lot to me!

What should your child's sleep space look like?
It may seem like there is a very obvious answer out there to this question but with more social media out there and shops advertising beautiful nursery products such as cot bumpers and pillows it can be confusing to know if it is really safe to use these products and if so when is it safe to use them?
In this week's podcast I dive into this topic with a lot of information from the Lullaby Trust UK and the AAP (American Association of Pediatrics) to bring you some guidance to your child's sleep space to ensure it is safe. and you know what is needed and what is not...

How much crying is involved in sleep training?
The question I am asked most often during discovery calls - "How much crying will be involved Rachael"? An absolutely valid question and one I have answers to. With nearly 6 years of experience behind me in this field of sleep training I have seen it all and supported parents through the tears from both child and parent.
Of course there is going to be tears and in this podcast I explain more in depth on how much you may experience and how you can handle it and what we can do if you feel it is not all fitting into place.
Don't be scared of sleep training just because your child may cry, you are teaching your child a new skill, a lifelong skill and you are ensuring your child gets better, healthier sleep that has many benefits for them and as a family.
If you have any questions about sleep training please feel free to drop me an mail and ask away. (link to email below)

When is it time for routine?
A question I am often asked from new parents is " when should we get into a routine"? So I kick of this new season of podcast by answering this question. I explain when and why routines may work and also the potential fall outs if there is no routine in place. For the "go with the flow" parents out there, don't be scared to listen to this one... you may find out something interesting that you can also use...

Why consistency matters when it comes to sleep training
Like most things practice makes perfect and no less is it true when it comes to sleep training. I know many families have the desire to sleep train and they embark on that journey only to fail because there was no consistency. They may have thought they know what to do because their friend did it and it worked for them or they read an article on google but what was missing here was the true details of sleep training and the bits of information that bring it all together and create that continuity and in turn the results!
Let me explain this consistency a little deeper in today's podcast and what happens when it’s not there.

The Montessori Bed Yeah or Neah?
We have all seen the beautiful pictures on social media of the Montessori bed in the beautiful decorated child’s bedroom and all dreamt of creating that Pinterest worthy bedroom ourselves and I know it is possible, because I can see it...it is there on social media right! Wrap up call with Rachel and her daughter of 9 months
This week is a very special episode where I am talking to Rachel, a wonderful mum, as we wrap up a 2 week sleep journey with her 9 month old baby girl called Freya.
Freya had an extremely strong association of feeding and parental presence to sleep. For bedtimes and naps Freya only ever fell asleep on the breast and she needed a lot of rocking and physical help from mum to finally drop off to sleep. Some days it took nearing 40 minutes to get her to sleep leaving mum feeling trapped and exhausted. It was just not sustainable anymore.
The evening bedtime came and Freya was unsettled within the first 2 hours and nights were tricky. Often feeding a lot in the night which affected her interest in solids and milk the following day.
In this call you will hear how much has changed in just 2 weeks even with a break in the middle to cope with a heatwave and being ill, what is next in terms of routine for little Freya and how to manage those days when routine goes out the window!

Becoming parents the first time around we are overcome by all the items on sale in stores willing us to part with our money, telling us we NEED it and because it looks pretty and we want the best for our baby we buy it. And pretty much everything else on the shelf as well!
But in reality do you really need it? Aside of the obvious strollers and cribs let's get to the nitty gritty of the shopping list!
In this weeks podcast I am joined by Clarissa, founder of Charlie's Footsteps to talk us over the things you really do need and what you can live without! From Baby Shower gifts to Newborn through to 12 months of age we have you covered!

Do you really need to keep a routine on holiday?
Holiday season is well and truly underway but what does that mean for routines? Many parents like to have a structured routine at home but when on tour a go with the flow outlook is preferred but what does that mean for naps and night sleep? Is napping on the go you want to do more of when on holiday, perhaps you plan on later dinners with the family and hoping for longer lie ins the following day...!
In todays podcast I explain about holidays and routines and what it all means. I explain why you may need to keep a routine and why and how you can swerve off it and the possible consequences.

Managing sleep and daycare

It is very normal to have these thoughts and be concerned. I sure had them when both Leo and Chloe started nursery. But, don't worry, in today's podcast I explain how to mange sleep and daycare and hopefully put your mind at peace!
