Menopause: why more information is not always supportive
My first nutritional therapy clients were often older than me and struggling with symptoms of menopause. Through working with these women, I have learned and continue to learn that their behaviours influenced their experience of hormonal changes. And what drives those behaviours…thoughts. In our work… We discovered many limiting beliefs and many areas where self care boundaries were not upheld. We discovered that more information is not always supportive and indeed can be limiting. In my work facilitating these women in their journey, I could support them to reduce the overwhelm and get busy doing! Everyday you have a choice, make the choice today to listen to this episode, where I dive into: 👌 Boundaries, compassion and why we should be giving ourselves heaps of it through out the hormonal changes in life. 👌 Some questions you can ask yourself to see what it is you really need in those difficult moments. 🤩 Developing a positive mindset around menopause and changing the focus. 👌 Movement and menopause. 👌 Nutrition and how to use the nutritional information in menopause. 🤩 Spirituality and my own experience of spirituality to help find peace in the calm. Embracing your enoughness through yoga, unlinking movement from body weight and finding hope with Shirlí
This week on the podcast, I chat to Shirlí from Vitality Vibe , in our conversation we discuss unlinking movement from body weight/appearance and how you can find hope and compassion through movement - movement that is not fixated on body image and diet culture standards.
We talk about:
- How the first time Shirli discovered yoga she thought "what a load of crap" and what changed
- The personal recovery journey that led Shirlí to yoga and what she learned along the way
- How to manage self comparison, the inner critic and the ego when on the mat or practicing movement
- How if we keep viewing movement as a way to achieve a certain body ideal we’ll forever be stuck in the on-again-off-again loop with exercise.
- How to come from a place of compassion when it comes to movement and our body image
- Finding what works best for you on a given day
Shirlí became a certified yoga instructor in 2012 and established Shirlí Yoga. In 2013 she was in an RTA that resulted in multiple injuries, the most significant a traumatic brain injury and a break in the C5 vertebrae in her neck. This accident became her catalyst for seeking and trying all types of healing modalities and she embarked on a journey of understanding how the mind and body can be influenced through our daily habits.

Thin Privilege, Diet Culture and Your Relationship With Food
Welcome to the first episode of the brand new season of The Confident & Eating Podcast! This season, I am bringing you a new word to focus on..and that is CURIOSITY.
Why curiosity?
Well, curiosity is what opened me up to the world of intuitive eating and it really embodies the message that I want to share this season.
When I was studying nutrition is that I thought I could help the world by telling them what to do and what to eat, but through learning about my own privilege and the world around us I learned that privilege and think privilege create situations that make it easy for some and not so easy for others.
So what has privilege got to do with your relationship with food?
In this episode I discuss:
- The first moment I realised my own thin privilege when I was on holiday in Spain.
- Why body size, willpower, shape and weight is largely out of our control.
- What exactly is thin privilege and how diet culture has impacted this.
- Why weight loss does not actually equal better health.
And don't forget to subscribe and follow the podcast so you never miss an episode.
Remember, I love to hear from you so if this episode has impacted you or if you would like to share your own experience, do get in touch either by email denise@foodee.ie OR you can always contact me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/foodeenutrition/

SEASON 2: TRAILER
This season I am bringing you a new word - curiosity.
Get curious as to how you can support your health the non-diet way. Because you know in your heart that the diet’s don’t work.
And I know that you are overwhelmed with the all of information that you should be doing in regards to your health and diet.
My aim this season, is to give you the tools and support to clarify your WHY for your self care.
This season I want you to tap into your deep curiosity to learn new approaches. Because deep in your heart you know the diet is not working, you know that trying to be ‘perfect’ is causing you nothing but overwhelm and stress..
I also thought I needed to be perfect. I thought I needed to change who I was. How wrong was I? It was the mistake that I made that I want to prevent you from making.
Take a listen to learn to see what IS possible for you as I help you to change your thoughts so that you can open up to curiosity and learn about ways you can eat to live - not live to eat.
I have so much planned for you this season over the next 10 weeks so stay tuned!

On today's episode, Denise talks about the fifth principle of Intuitive Eating - feel your fullness.
So what does it mean to feel and respect your fullness?
"The key to respecting fullness means giving yourself unconditional permission to eat. When you know and trust you can eat whatever it is again, it's letting go of the notion that certain foods are good and others are bad "

You do not need to starve yourself next week.

Episode 4: How to Challenge the Food Police - Intuitive Eating Principle 4
Welcome to episode 4!
On today's episode, Denise talks about the fourth principle of Intuitive Eating - how to challenge the food police.
So who are the food police in terms of intuitive eating?
The Food police monitor the unreasonable rules that dieting has created. Certainly, you may have people in your life who tell you how you should eat – either directly or indirectly. They might say things like “You eat that? Haven’t you heard how bad that is for you?” or or simply bragging about their own eating habits, making you feel like you should follow suit.
However, the most militant form of the police comes from your own mind, from within. It incorporates every bit of information you’ve internalized from doctors, friends, family, media and culture about:
- How you should or shouldn’t eat
- Which foods are “good” and which foods are “bad”
- How much your health relies on what you eat (hint: many things affect how healthy you are, and food is only one of them)
In this episode, Denise shares:
- What exactly does the food police really mean in Intuitive Eating?
- How to challenge the food police to help improve your relationship with food.
- The different types of negative self-talk such as 'all or nothing' thinking and 'catastrophic' and 'perfectionist' thinking and how to recognise this.
- Why self-compassion and self-awareness are KEY in eating and the ultimate weapon against the food police.

Season 1 Trailer
Welcome to the Confident and Eating Podcast with me, your host, Denise Wogan from FooDee Nutrition. This podcast is the place for busy moms to regain their confidence in eating, in feeding, and in themselves as you survive motherhood.
Do you find yourself lying awake at night worrying, thinking you're falling short in work, relationships, with the kids, at home, even in your health? And the fastest way to look after your health is to micromanage what you eat.
You're here because the diet hasn't worked for you. Everyone else seems to have gotten it right, but you don't quite seem to be there. And really you just can't face dieting. You enjoy eating.
I'm going to bring you on a journey of discovering a key life skill.
Understanding yourself.
You cannot change what you cannot make sense of, and you cannot make sense of this health thing because of diet culture. Diets have failed you. You've never really fully felt the actions that you've been taking are helping your health because you haven't felt different.
I'm Denise, a certified intuitive eating counselor, nutritional therapist and breathwork coach, and I want to help you heal your relationship with food so that you can truly feel confident so that you don't just have to exist through motherhood.
In this show, we'll be cutting through nutrition myths. I'll be taking you through the intuitive eating framework and all of my knowledge on the microbiome, aka your friendly gut bugs so that you can choose food that will feel right for your body.
We'll be working on those unhelpful thoughts that diet and health culture have instilled in you. So that you can see the problem more clearly and you can make sense of what the real issue is behind.
And because I truly believe in the power of compassion, we'll be leaning into and learning how to fuel self-compassion so that you can reflect on your problem calmly and choose better solutions for yourself every day.
It's time for you to empower yourself in your health journey.
Whatever the wish, dream or desire that you have, you're telling yourself I can't, and I'm here holding the belief for you that you can.
You can find me at @foodeenutrition on Instagram and Facebook and at www.foodee.ie.
And because I love my mission and I want to share my passion with as many women as I can so that we can ripple out into the world and create a revolution of change, please like and share this with as many of your friends, the other moms in your world.
