***TRIGGER WARNING - this episode contains conversations about sexual violence and abuse. Welcome to Without Regret, the podcast where stories of resilience and redemption take center stage. and in each episode, we delve into the lives of individuals who have faced adversity head-on and emerged stronger on the other side. Today, we're honored to share the remarkable journey of Michelle Shekhinah, a survivor whose life took an unexpected turn in 2014. Through her resilience, she not only saved herself but has also become a beacon of hope for others who have experienced trauma and abuse. Get ready to be inspired, moved, and uplifted in Part 1 of Michelle's story. At the end of this episode, there are a couple of messages I want to leave you with. The first is that what Michelle has experienced IS Trafficking. This is not normal behavior and if you are in a similar situation, you are not alone, you are not crazy, and there is help out there. The second is to believe the survivors when they tell their stories. It can be easy to hear all of this chaos and think "Oh this is just a jilted wife looking for revenge". That is not the case. Michelle is in hiding, she isn't naming any names or even her location. She has nothing to gain by talking about this other than helping other women who are being abused. I don't want to wait until the end of part 2 to talk about her foundation From the Floor to the door, which will be explained in more detail in part 2, but you can visit her website www.fromthefloortothedoor.com for help. Episode 30 - Praline's Backyard Foundation: Sheltering Hope for Pets of Domestic Violence Survivors with Orazie Cook

I am so excited to introduce a remarkable guest who is making a significant impact in the intersection of domestic violence and pet welfare.

My guest, Orazie Cook, is the Founder and Executive Director of the Praline's Backyard Foundation. While she's been fortunate not to experience domestic violence herself, her upbringing instilled a lifelong dedication to volunteerism, inspired by her mother.

During her college years, Orazie volunteered at a crisis line and later at a domestic violence shelter, where she witnessed survivors grappling with a heart-wrenching dilemma: the fear of their pets being harmed or used as bargaining chips to lure them back into dangerous situations.

These experiences deeply influenced Orazie, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, as domestic violence cases surged, she took time to reflect and decided to take action. She established the Praline's Backyard Foundation, a unique initiative partnering with shelters, domestic violence survivors, dog boarding facilities, and fosters to provide and fund accommodations for survivors' pets.

Orazie's background in public health and her passion for animal welfare motivated her to navigate the complex process of helping survivors secure safe housing for their pets.

In this episode, Orazie shares her inspiring journey, her profound understanding of the bond between survivors and their pets, and the vital role of fostering. Her unique insights and unwavering commitment make her an ideal guest for this  Podcast." Episode 27 - A Pathway to Insight with Ann Hince: Recapture Your Childhood Buzz

Episode 27 - A Pathway to Insight with Ann Hince: Recapture Your Childhood Buzz

I really love to highlight the different techniques my guests have used to find inner peace, healing and to turn their lives around and this episode is no different. In this episode, we dive into my guest's remarkable journey of self-discovery and healing. It all began when, at the age of 19, she woke up to a heartbreaking discovery - her mother's lifeless body in their bathroom. The trauma from that day remained with her for two long decades, just beneath the surface, until a remarkable 15-minute session with a unique technique changed everything. She shares how this session released the emotional charge from that traumatic event, allowing her to tell the story devoid of emotion. This marked the beginning of her quest to not only release past traumas but also journey into her subconscious mind to unlock the deep-seated tension stored within her body, all through the power of her awareness. In a world that often tells us what we should or shouldn't feel, my guest emphasizes the importance of seeking our truth and embracing our genuine emotions as the path to inner peace. As she aptly puts it, "As within, so without." What sets this guest's story apart is her extraordinary ability to sense and release physical tension stored in her connective tissue using the sole focus of her mind. With x-rays as evidence, she showcases the incredible physical changes resulting from this inner work, including the alignment of her eye sockets, the straightening of her neck, the centering of her lower jaw, and even a remarkable 3/4-inch growth in height at the age of 56. Her message is clear: each of us possesses an incredible power within, waiting to be tapped into. By delving deeper into practices we may already be familiar with, we can harness this power for personal transformation. As many know, changing our internal world has a profound impact on our external reality, and my guest firmly believes that this change has the potential to not only reshape our personal lives but also our collective world. You will be captivated as I was by the wisdom my guest, Ann Hince, shares on her YouTube channel, where she chronicles her journey, explores the connection between the physical and spiritual, and provides insights into addressing pressing issues of our time. For those hungry for more, her book, "A Pathway to Insight," offers a detailed roadmap of her journey and the steps she took to attain what she calls Insight, the ability to see within the body. Prepare to be inspired as Ann unveils the extraordinary power that resides within us all and the transformative potential it holds for our lives and the world at large.

Episode 19 - A Future Through Fitness with Sterling Walker

Episode 19 - A Future Through Fitness with Sterling Walker

Sterling Walker with @sterl_fitness has been one of my most favorite guests so-far. He is so young, yet so wise! I wish I had his determination and attitude at 25! But I also am glad I didn't have to endure the things he did in order to have that attitude.

To hear him talk about his life in the beginning, it doesn't sound so bad. It sounds better than my childhood at first, at least he had a mom and a dad at home. At least he was involved in something (wrestling) in high school, and graduated. At least he got to go to college right out of high school. But we quickly realize, his childhood wasn't that great after all. I wonder how many people on the outside looking in thought he had a great home-life too. It is just another example of how you really never know what is going on behind closed doors.

Sterling says it was his late grandmother who gave him the strength he has today. She must have been one amazing and tough woman because he sure has a lot of strength.

After figuring out Wrestling really wasn't his passion, it was his father's, he realized fitness is his true passion. So he's set out on a mission to inspire others and help people with their fitness, but honestly, he can inspire people in so many other ways too. He inspired me to hit the gym the day we did the recording, and he hadn't even talked to me yet. And after completing the editing I'm now inspired to get up and meditate and set my intentions in the morning before I start my day. He didn't even say in so many words to do that, and I'm not sure if he even does that himself, but he did say something. He said you have to get up in the morning and take care of yourself. Its the whole concept of putting on your oxygen mask before helping others. And that is so important for us all to remember. We have to take care of ourselves before we can really do a good job taking care of others.

I titled this blogpost "If you fail, they fall" because it is these words that truly hit home with Sterling when he had to take in his younger brother and sister after child protective services removed them from their parent's home due to an abusive father. Wes Walker, Sterlings mentor, said these words to him and Sterling took them to heart and they have been his mantra ever since. Sterling really impressed me with how he took little nuggets from different people all through his life and really learned what they meant, and applied them to his life in his own, unique, way.

Check out Sterling's Instagram (@sterl_fitness) if you're ready for some "tell-it-like-it-is" advise, tough love and a lot of colorful language :)

Episode 15 - Making Amends

Episode 15 - Making Amends

For over 35 years I have held a grudge against my half-sister who was given up for adoption by my mother. She found evidence to identify her birth mother and managed to find our mom when I was 12 years old. Having always known she existed I was very excited to meet her. After 2-years our mom invited her and her family to come live with us in Florida until they got on their feet. After 4 months of them living with us and putting a financial burden on our Mom, they moved back to Indiana. I was 14 at the time. They didn't leave on the best of terms and we didn't speak for 10 more years. I have never told my sister that I had hard feelings, I have just sat on them for over 35-years. She had no idea. This is the first time we have discussed it since it happened. This is the first time I've given her a chance to let me know her side of things - where I have gotten out of thinking about the whole situation from my 14-year-old point of view.

My hope for this podcast episode is to show how there are always two sides to every story. Family is important, whether raised together or not. A lot of familes can't get passed things in their past and some never make amends. Here is a real-life, real-time example of how a healthy conversation can have a big impact and take a huge weight off of all parties involved. Forgiveness is a wonderful thing!!!
